Silva wants GSP, Win lose or draw at UFC 154: Condit is meaningless
UFC President Dana White recently confirmed that Georges St. Pierre and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson “Spider” Silva have expressed interest in a super fight. Win, lose or draw it has been speculated that St. Pierre’s next opponent after Carlos Condit will be Anderson Silva in a Catchweight bout.
“Spider”, recently volunteered on short notice to fight at Light Heavyweight at UFC 151 when Dan Henderson withdrew due to injury. However, the offer was left on the table and the event cancelled. He has, instead turned his sights to the Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. Silva does not even care if GSP successfully defends the Welterweight title against Carlos Condit at UFC 154 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on November 17, 2012.
In an interview with Brazilian SportTV the Middleweight Champ said: “Regardless of who wins, even if St. Pierre loses, a fight with me can happen. A fight like this is above anything else. St. Pierre is one of the greatest of the UFC. Right now, a fight with Condit is meaningless.”
It sounds like Silva almost wants to jump the gun and fight St. Pierre, before GSP faces Condit. While that bout could prove interesting, this writer is curious to see if an 18-month recovery has taken its toll on St. Pierre’s game. If Condit emerges victorious, the stakes for a Silva vs. GSP superfight drop to more of an exhibition grade bout. A true superfight is when two champions from different divisions face each other. Although Silva says he will take the bout whether the outcome of GSP vs. Condit is “Win, lose or draw”, a true superfight between the two requires an extra “1” in the win column for St. Pierre
