Dana White: Georges St-Pierre wants to fight Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre are largely considered two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world. A bout between these two fighters would truly be legendary. the stuff fantasy picks are made of when fans often discuss fights they would like to see.

The 37-year old Silva remains undefeated in the Octagon and although out while recuperating from an injury, St-Pierre, is currently riding a nine-fight win streak. Silva’s camp has been saying that he has picked off any serious Middleweight contenders and have been asking for a super fight with St-Pierre.

UFC President Dana White has been vague in the past about a fight between the two men. However, on today’s Dave & Mahoney show on X107.5 radio in Las Vegas, White called in and more than hinted that this dream fight may become a reality.

White said: “I think if we do the fight with Silva and Georges St-Pierre, it would be at a catchweight; probably like 178, something like that. Georges St-Pierre says he wants to do it.”

When asked if this could be St-Pierre’s next fight if he defeats Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November, the UFC President answered: “Probably. He has got to beat Condit first though. That’s a tough fight. Georges has been off for over a year, so we’ll see.”

The Welterweight champion has often said that he would have to put on permanent weight to move up and challenge Silva at Middleweight and that he did not want to bounce back and forth between weight classes. A catchweight fight solves that dilemma and leaves both championships untouched, providing St-Pierre defeats Condit.
