Yoel Romero (11-1) was informed on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 that he potentially tested positive for a failed drug test that was out-of-competition. The promotion issued the following statement regarding the matter:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) informed Yoel Romero of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Romero. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.

Romero last fought at UFC 194 when he defeated Ronaldo Souza on the main card and is currently on a seven-fight winning streak. Following the fight, he was considered as a #1 contender for Luke Rockhold’s middleweight title. Now, that could be up in the air depending on if the test is positive and how long he will be suspended.

It should be noted that Romero was surprised by USADA with a drug test just days before UFC 194.

Romero has two weeks to decide whether he will appeal the potential violation.
