WSOF 33 Results: David Branch Scores Decision Victory Over Vinny Magalhaes

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, October 7th, 2016) will come from WSOF 33. Headlining the card are David Branch and Vinny Magalhaes, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the card.

David Branch and Vinny Magalhaes met in a light heavyweight title bout as of the main event. In the first round, Branch knocked him down but allowed Magalhaes to get up. Magalhaes tagged him then clinched, but they separated quickly. In round 2, Branch dropped him early and swarmed him with strikes but Magalhaes stayed in it. Magalhães was bleeding from his nose and stood up. Branch pounced on him and landed some big knees while in the clinch. Branch took him down and then let him back up. In the third round, Magalhaes was trying to counter strike, but Branch was still landing his shots and controlling the round on the feet. In the fourth round, Branch rocked him towards the end of the round in which he dominated. Magalhaes survived somehow. Magalhaes was bleeding from his right temple. In the fifth round, Branch stayed on him and looked like he was never tired. Branch controlled the round and coasted his way to victory to retain the light heavyweight title.

Jason High and Joao Zeferino met in a lightweight bout. After a feeling out process early in round one, Zeferino caught and hurt him then took him down towards the end of the round. Zeferino got guard and landed some elbows. High scrambled to his feet and ate a big head kick by Zeferino to end the round. In the second round, Zeferino shot in and took High down to begin the round. Zeferino went for a guillotine choke but High scrambled, got out of it, and stood up. High clinched and put him up against the fence. Zeferino took him down mid-way through the round. With two minutes to go, they were stood up after a lack of action. In the third round, Zeferino dropped him with a big right hand and finished him on the ground with strikes.

Brian Foster and Luiz Firmino met in a lightweight  bout. Foster dropped him inside the first minute of the first round and went for a heel hook but Firmino scrambled and got on top in guard.Foster locked in a triangle choke late in the round and won the fight. Firmino claimed that he didn’t tap after the fight.

John Howard and Abubakar Nurmagomedov met in a welterweight bout. In the first round, Nurmagomedov came out and blitzed him while in the clinch with knees. Howard pressed off, landed some combos and finished it with a knee before settling back in the center of the cage. Nurmagomedov took him down midway through the round and got guard. In the second round, they kept it on the feet and exchanged. Midway through the round, Howard clinched up against the fence and landed some good knees. With a minute to go, Nurmagomedov caught and dropped him then swarmed him with strikes on the ground. Seconds later, Howard got up and took him down. In the third round, Nurmagomedov clinched with him up against the fence and took him down. Nurmagomedov transitioned into half guard in the middle of the round. They were stood up with just a little over a minute to go. Moments later, Nurmagomedov scored a takedown and this is how the fight ended. The judges gave Nurmagomedov the unanimous decision win.

Shawn Jordan and Ashley Gooch met in a heavyweight bout. They come out swinging and Jordan took him down just over a minute into the round and got half guard and rained down strikes while up against the fence. Jordan slowed down but was still throwing shots while having Gooch down. Jordan got on his back and just beat his face in with his strikes and the fight was stopped.

Opening the main card on NBCSN was Chris Gutierrez vs. Timur Valiev. In the first round, Valiev caught a kick and took him down. Valiev was in half guard and worked Gutierrez over with strikes. Not a ton of action as the fans booed. In the second round, Gutierrez went for a low kick to begin the round but Vasiliev caught it and took him down. Valiev pressed him up against the fence while he landed strikes. Gutierrez stood up halfway through the round but Valiev slammed him down and got into guard. Gutierrez made his way to his feet late in the round but Valiev clinched with him up against the fence. In the third round, Valiev took him down after some good exchanges. Gutierrez scrambled to his feet and Valiev clinched with him. They trade to finish the fight. The judges gave Valiev the unanimous decision.
