Who Is Your Pick For Fighter Of The Year 2013?
2013 has brought us some quality moments in MMA history, all in all it could be considered the best year ever for combat sports. At least for the fans, it has been a roller coaster ride of exciting fights, big finishes and a fair share of controversy too.
With such an entertaining 12 months in MMA, and possibly the biggest fight in UFC history still to come (Weidman vs. Silva II) there have been a number of stand out performances in the 20 year old promotion. Urijah Faber, Demetrious Johnson, Chris Weidman, Anthony Pettis, Vitor Belfort and Georges St-Pierre are all being talked about for fighter of the year.
My personal pick has to be Vitor Belfort, ‘The Phenom’ has just been on fire this year. Firstly Belfort knocked out Michael Bisping in January with a sweet head kick, then he dispatched Strikeforce Middleweight champ Luke Rockhold this May in similar fashion and rounded the year off with a KO victory over Dan Henderson in November.
Obviously the other candidates may have stronger arguments as far as level of competition or longevity are concerned, but knocking out three high level guys in 12 months is really what seals that decision for me.
Wednesday’s edition of “UFC Tonight” featured analysts Karyn Bryant, Chael Sonnen, Demetrious Johnson, Ariel Helwani and Kenny Florian. They joined forces to discuss their opinion on who should be awarded fighter of the year. Check it out and stay tuned to LowKick.com!
