White says James Irvin won’t fight again at 185lbs in the UFC

James Irvin suffered a TKO loss to Alessio Sakara at UFC on versus 1:Vera vs Jones, in the first round, and UFC president Dana White seemed concerned about Irvin’s weight coming in to this loss. Dana had this to say about Irvin’s physical condition;

‘He looked terrible at the weigh-ins, there was **** coming out of his face. 205 is a tough cut for him. Tonight it looked like the cut killed him. He couldn’t get off, He couldn’t throw any punches and Sakara basically lit him up. Thats not James Irvin, that’s not who he is as a fighter. I really like him alot but no more 185 for him. He didn’t look good yesterday.’

So it now looks like if Irvin will get another shot in the UFC it will be in the light heavyweight division. Irvin who was hoping to bounce back after being destroyed in one round by Anderson Silva in 2008 will need to consider a move back to LHW, if he wants to return in the UFC that is. For a fighter who has 10 ko’s out of 14 wins Irvin looked uncomfortable on the feet against fellow brawler Sakara and the pictures of the weigh-ins do seem to indicate that Irvin was drained from the cut. Irvin has also been suffering from health problems in recent times and I personally hope to see a better showing if he can make a UFC return.
