UFC on FOX 22 went down in Sacramento, California last night, and provided plenty of fireworks. Headlined by a fantastic women’s strawweight tilt between Michelle Waterson and Paige VanZant, the California card also featured a hometown hero. Former WEC champion and Team Alpha Male founder Urijah Faber fought for the last time in his storied career. Taking on Brad Pickett in the second bout on the main card, ‘The California Kid’ wrapped up a 44-fight MMA career at the age of 37.

Faber received a touching ovation on his entrance to the octagon, but his victory was in no way assured. ‘One Punch’ is as feisty as they come, and at this stage in Faber’s career it could have gone south if he hadn’t been on point. Showing why he has long been a top fighter at the elite level, ‘TCK’ dominated the action against his British opponent.

Classic Faber

Getting the party started early on, Urijah Faber dropped Brad Pickett with some crushing punches. Displaying his tight grappling on the ground, Faber was looking for the finish throughout. After the final round, there was a clear winner, as ‘The California Kid’ shut out Pickett for three entire rounds.

Fitting End

Providing a fitting end to his illustrious career, Faber can call it a day on a victory, something many legends have been unable to do in the past. Perhaps making this moment even sweeter is the fact ‘The California Kid’ has lost two in a row before hand. Few fighters will ever make it to the level of experience and skill that Faber has. Although he never tasted UFC gold, he’ll forever be remembered as the former WEC featherweight champion and for his gritty wars with the best in the lower weight classes.
