Vitor Belfort To Face Chad Dawson At Triller Triad Combat II
Vitor Belfort will continue his post-UFC journey at Triller Triad Combat II in February when he takes on former world boxing champion Chad Dawson.
Triad Combat is a new style of fighting that incorporates boxing and MMA rules. Only punches are allowed, but unlike boxing, fighters will be able to clinch and throw strikes from the clinch. The bouts are held in a triangular ring and each round is scheduled for two minutes.
The first Triad Combat event was held in November and was fairly successful but ultimately overshadowed by the main event of the evening which saw Kubrat Pulev blast out MMA legend Frank Mir, who could’ve been seriously hurt because of a pretty shoddy refereeing display.
Pulev is set to headline again on February 2 against another UFC legend in Junior dos Santos while Belfort will be in the co-main event slot against Dawson.
Vitor Belfort Is Fighting A Boxer Closer To His Prime This Time Around
‘The Phenom’ made his long-awaited and eagerly anticipated return to fighting in September when he took on Evander Holyfield on a Triller boxing card. Belfort was originally supposed to face off against Oscar De La Hoya, but ‘Golden Boy’ was forced out of the bout after contracting COVID-19 and replaced by the heavyweight boxing legend, Holyfield.
The fight was something of a farce with many people expressing concern about Holyfield’s ability to compete at 59-years-old. Despite that, the fight went ahead anyway and ‘The Real Deal’ was quickly stopped by Belfort.
Dawson, who held multiple world titles at light-heavyweight, promises to be a much sterner test for Belfort. ‘Bad’ is 20 years younger than Holyfield and at 39-years-old he’s still relatively close to his fighting prime. Dawson, who holds wins over the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Tarver, and Glen Johnson, is currently riding a two-fight win streak and last fought in 2019.
