Vitor Belfort looking to fight Chris Weidman or the winner of Lombard vs. Boetsch

When asked about his next opponent, UFC Middleweight contender Vitor Belfort took little time in giving a decisive answer:

“Weidman, or the winner of the Cuban (Hector Lombard) vs. (Tim) Boetsch).” Belfort told MMA.tv via tatame.com

Weidman has many calling for him to be the next number-one contender at Middleweight. Dana White has also been quoted as perhaps fast-tracking former Bellator champ Hector Lombard to the title shot with a win over the top-10 Boetsch. Belfort has looked impressive in finishing Yoshihiro Akiyama and then Anthony Johnson with relative ease, and was set to face Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147 as part of the very first The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil finale. Belfort is currently nursing another injury but looks for a high-profile bout upon his return to get him back into the title mix. He continued on:

“I’m waiting for my confirmation on the Rio card, see who’s gonna be my opponent. Nobody send me anything yet. I believe I’ll get an answer on that next week”.

Belfort is looking to get back to another fight versus the great champion Anderson Silva. The problem may be there are  several tough fighters in line to face Silva right now. Vitor Belfort may find it difficult to reach a title bout versus the man who put him on the wrong end of UFC highlight reels with an intense front-kick knockout in early 2011. Still, if he can sign to fight Weidman, Lombard, or Boetsch and wins in convincing fashion, it will be tough to deny him the rematch he so covets. Will we see Vitor Belfort fight for the UFC Middleweight title again soon?
