Vadim Finkelstein says Fedor’s eye injury “is just a swelling”
“We didn’t ask for medical assistance. There’s just a severe swelling, and no real damage to the eye. Doctor put an ice pack on it, and now Fedor is resting. I think that the ring doctors made the right decision to stop the fight because Fedor couldn’t see anything out of his right eye, and who knows what kind of consequences could hide behind the swelling. But fortunately, everything is alright.”
Emelianenko’s right eye started to swell at the end of Round 2 in a fight against Antonio Silva, what looked like a typical broken Orbital Bone swelling. However, M-1 Global CEO Vadim Finkelstein revealed Fedor’s Orbital Bone is not damage, and that “The Last Emperor” did not require any special medical assistance after the fight.
Speaking about the outcome of the fight, Finkelstein seemed to be in a surprisingly positive mood:
“Fedor didn’t lose this fight. He won the first round, survived the second, and if not that eye swelling, who knows what could have happened in the third. Fedor was ready to continue the fight.”
Finally, Vadim Finkelstein also related to Emelianenko’s retirement talk, simply saying: “Fedor was simply caught in excitement. It’s too early to write him off”. Fedor will now return to Russia, as he’s expected to announce his final decision during the next months.
