Urijah Faber Sees Huge Opportunities In The Future
Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber is one of the most well known MMA fighters on the face of the earth. He’s fought wars with a who’s who of the lower weight divisions, and if his career were to end today, he’d have nothing left to prove.
However, Faber is still hungry and is looking to claw back towards the top. Set to face off with the widely unknown but ridiculously dangerous Brazilian Yuri Alcantara at this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 26 from the TD Garden in Boston, MA., Faber knows that perhaps his last chance at a title is at hand.
His critics will point out the fact that he’s lost five consecutive title fights in the WEC and UFC, a statistic that would have most fighters far from another shot if they ever got one. But Faber always seems to be in the mix at 135 lbs., and he’s destroyed both Scott Jorgensen and Ivan Menjivar via submission since dropping a decision to Renan Barao for the interim strap at UFC 149.
In a pre-fight interview from the UFC, Faber points out that his goal is to still be the best in the world. With a growing bantamweight roster, that task is becoming increasingly difficult in the UFC. Faber is in the unenviably task of facing a good opponent without much name recognition, but that’s okay with him. Can he silence his critics and find a spot in yet another title bout?
