Urijah Faber out of the WEC 50 bout against Takeya Mizugaki

Sherdog has reported that The California Kid Urijah Faber (23-4-1) has pulled out of his bantamweight debut against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 50 Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez.

Apparently Faber has suffered a knee injury earlier this week in training.  One might wonder if Faber is still dealing with the damage that Jose Aldo caused at WEC 48 due to a relentless barrage of leg kicks.  Faber will be most likely out of action until September, and the injury will not require surgery according to Faber’s agent Mike Roberts.

Faber was looking to make a successful debut at bantamweight after suffering 3 championship losses at lightweight, two of which were delivered at the hands of Mike Brown and the other by the current featherweight champ Jose Aldo.  We will have to wait to see how the 31 year old will do at his new weight class, and if he can return to his dominant ways.

Mizugaki sports a 13-4-2 record.  He has gone 2-3 after his loss to Miguel Torres for the title at WEC 40.  It is unclear at this point if Mizugaki will remain on the card.
