UFC Fight Night 27 Prelim Results Recap: Elkins And Hioki Put On A Thriller
The Ultimate Fight Night 26 Prelims are in the books, providing an exciting night of undercard action.
First up on the Facebook prelims was Abel Trujillo vs. Roger Bowling. These two guys went to war in the first round, smashing each other with big haymakers. Both guys were rocked in turn, and put on a great display of durability. Early in the second round Blackzilians fighter Trujillo started to gas slightly. Bowling was getting the upper hand until Trujillo landed a series of brutal knees against the cage. Bowling went limp after a follow up right hand, and the fight was over. The only thing wrong was that Trujillo’s second knee was illegal, and subsequently was judged to be a foul. No contest was the final decision, but I’m sure these two will meet again.
Next up was Zak Cummings vs. Benny Alloway, in a battle of TUF veterans. Cummings controlled Alloway with surprising ease, earning his first UFC win with a tight D’arce choke.
On to the UFC fight night Prelims, and Jason High vs. James Head was the opening scrap, at 170lbs. The fight was over in not time, High earned his first UFC win with a tight mounted guillotine choke. A great win for High, who looked impressive.
Hatsu Hioki squared off against Darren Elkins in a Featherweight attraction and did not disappoint. The first round was back and forth, Elkins landed bombs to the head and Hioki scored numerous front kicks to Elkins’ body. Elkins was hurt but gutted out the round. The second round was an incredible display of grappling from both guys; Elkins makes it one round a piece. The third round saw Elkins wrestle against Hioki’s tricky guard, and earn a decision victory. An incredible match, everyone needs to take notice of Elkins, he looked great in victory.
Brandon Thatch made his UFC debut against Justin Edwards at Welterweight next, and Thatch scored a super impressive TKO win. He overcame any backstage jitters and scored some brutal knees and kicks to finish Edward very quickly.
The final fight on the card saw Papy Abedi go up against Dylan Andrews in a Middleweight tilt. The first round was highlighted by Abedi’s offensive wrestling, Andrew’s only real offense was a sweep to side control as the round closed. The second saw Abedi land some brutal ground and pound, and the third round saw Andrews come back from behind and score a flash knockout.
Abedi protested but he was out cold face down. What a great start to UFN 27.
