UFC Fight Night 42 Results: Sergio Pettis Gets Back In The Win Column
UFC Fight Night 42 is underway from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the first fight of the night was a light-heavyweight tilt between Roger Narvaez and Patrick Cummins. After a bit of a dull opener, Cummins came out for the second stanza on a mission. After his fourth successful takedown of the fight, ‘Durkin’ landed some heavy shots to the (back?) of the head of Narvaes to score a TKO win.
With the only Fight Pass prelim in the books, it was time for the Fox Sports 1 section of the card, and lightweights Jake Lynsey and Jon Tuck threw down. ‘The Librarian’ did well to survive an early onslaught from Tuck as he was wobbled with a big right hand. Aside from the terrible reffing, this was a really fun fight. Great work by both guys, but Tuck took home the win after a tap due to heel strikes to the ribs! Wow, I’ve never seen that before.
Scott Jorgensen and Danny Martinez were up next, and the flyweights are exciting as ever. After an explosive set of exchanges on the feet to start the bout, Jorgensen landed a series of brutal slams and g’n’p. Martinez rallied back in round two and clocked Jorgensen with a huge left hand that almost saw the fight finished, but then Jorgensen with a huge double-leg! What a fight! It was all Jorgensen in round three, as he dominated with wrestling, until Martinez rocked SJ again!
Jorgensen finished the fight with another big takedown, and thoroughly deserved the resulting decision win. Welterweight’s Bobby Voelker and Lance Benoist up now, and it looked like Benoist had the better of ‘Vicious’ early in round one. Voelker turned it around in the second frame, as Benoist looked to be tiring, and it was even going in to the last round. Benoist controlled the most past of the third, as both men seemed to gas. Benoist by decision.
Last fight on the prelims now, as Sergio Pettis goes up against Yaotzin Meza. The younger brother of lightweight champ Anthony Pettis looked to live up to his nickname of ‘Phenom’, but the first half of the fight really was quite slow. The pace picked up as Pettis wobbled Meza a big head kick, followed by punches. A conservative effort to say the least, as the crowd boos throughout the fight. Pettis takes home the decision.
