UFC 175 Prelims Results: Urijah Faber Taps Alex Cacares In Round Three

UFC 175 is underway at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the show is the first of the promotion’s double header weekend, making it two weekends on the trot and four events in just one week. The action kicked off with the Fight Pass prelims, and it was RFA champ Kevin Casey squaring off with Legacy FC boss Bubba Bush.

Wow! What a great opening to the evening, ‘King’ Casey dropped Bush with two huge punches, took his time and knocked Bubba out with elbows on the mat. It took Casey all of 61 seconds. Up next is Luke Zachrich and Guilherme Vasconcelos at middleweight. Zachrich was simply too much for his foe tonight, as he used much improved boxing to cruise his way to a decision win.

George Roop and Rob Font opened the Fox Sports Prelims with a bantamweight tilt, and this was a spectacular finish by the smaller man. Font came inside a left from Roop, landed a monster right hand and Roop was left half collapsed, and grappling air. Reminiscent of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers, Font gets the first round KO. Chris Camozzi goes up against Bruno Santos for the second bout now.

In a rather bland affair, Santos displayed his smothering grappling skills, while Camozzi showed good long jabs and straights. Santos by split decision. Ildemar Alcantara and Kenny Robertson had welterweight business to settle, and Robertson’s wrestling was the real difference maker. Alcantara looked lackadaisical in his performance, Kenny by decision.

The feature prelim bout was the bantamweight scrap between Urijah Faber and Alex Cacares, and this was a predictably lively affair. For his part, ‘Bruce Leroy’ put in a good showing. Unfortunately for Cacares though, Faber is a different beast. Big takedowns and solid shots were the story of this fight, as Faber took Cacares’ back in round three, to sink in the choke.
