UFC 175 Fight Breakdown: Ronda Rousey vs. Alexis Davis
This Saturday night women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will look to defend her crown for a fourth consecutive time as she faces off against Alexis Davis in the co-main event of UFC 175.
Coming into the bout, Davis has won her last five fights; with three wins in the UFC’s bantamweight division. She’s a talented striker with some deadly grappling skills but is she skilled enough to handle the champion?
Striking:
Both ladies are mostly recognised for their high-level grappling but they also poses a dangerous set of striking skills to go with it. Davis has a vicious muay Thai style which has took her past the likes of Jessica Eye and Liz Carmouche in the UFC. Shes a threat to anyone on the feet but the champion is no pushover herself, she showed this with her first round TKO over Sara McMann.
I’d say Davis has the slight edge but Rousey is constantly working on her stand up and keeps on improving. I think this ones going to be close so I’m saying 50/50.
Takedowns:
This is a no-brainer, let’s face it. Rousey is arguably the most dominant judoka the sport has ever seen. Davis can grapple and will know how to get the fight to the mat. But unless she drops the champ, “Ally-Gator” will not be able to get “Rowdy” down.
The champion easily takes this one 75/25.
Submissions:
This is where the breakdown becomes difficult. Both women are deadly submission artists with a list of victims who have tapped out on their record. Rousey may have a higher percentage of subs on her record but I think shes going to meet her match on the ground against Davis who is a top black belt under Cezar Gracie.
This is going to be closer than people think in my opinion. I’m saying 50/50.
How do you guys think both ladies matchup?
