UFC 174 Rory MacDonald Post-Fight Interview: “Ares” Calls For The Belt
By defeating No. 3-ranked Tyron Woodley with a complete technical striking clinic in the co-main event of tonight’s (Sat., June 14, 2014), surging welterweight Rory MacDonald scored what may have been his biggest UFC victory.
The win puts MacDonald, who spent years in the shadow of his famous training partner Georges St. Pierre’s shadow to take his place in the title picture after a ton of hype. In his post-fight interview courtesy of UFC.com, MacDonald expressed his readiness to fight for the belt:
“I think I’m ready. I know there’s a big fight with Brown and Robbie (Lawler), and I know those guys have done really well and been really aggressive, so I respect UFC’s decision, and whatever they plan to do. But they should know that I’m ready, and one day, very soon, the belt will be mine.”
With MacDonald’s technically precise striking making easy work of Woodley, who recently beat former interim champion Carlos Condit, who is one of only two men to defeat ”Ares,” it’s hard to argue with MacDonald’s words here. Does he deserve the next title shot, or will the winner of Lawler vs. Brown be more deserving?
