UFC 173: Barao vs. Dillashaw Extended Video Preview
With seven scintillating knockout finishes, it’s going to be extremely difficult to top last night’s (Sat., May 10, 2014) UFC Fight Night 40 from Cincinnati, Ohio. However, that’s not going to stop the promotion from trying, as UFC 173 will take place on May 24, 2014, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event features a bantamweight title bout between surging champion Renan Barao and upstart challenger T.J. Dillashaw, but the hits don’t stop there.
Also on the card is Daniel Cormier’s first true test at light heavyweight. After starching an overmatched Patrick Cummins at UFC 170 in February, the undefeated “DC” will look to prove he is the next rightful contender to the UFC light heavyweight title when he faces former Pride and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson.
A pivotal welterweight match-up is also on the docket, as recent title challenger Robbie Lawler returns to action to face No. 5-ranked Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger. While the next shot at injured champion Johny Hendricks’ title will most likely go to the winner of UFC 174’s Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley affair, the winner of Lawler vs. Ellenberger will definitely have an inside track towards a title shot.
