UFC 163 Prelims Results And Recap

Another great night, so far, for the UFC in Brazil. It is fast becoming a modern meccah for MMA, and UFC 163’s prelims showed a wide variety of exciting fights.

First off was Bristol Marunde vs. Viscardi Andrade at Welterweight, and it didn’t last long. After just 96 seconds, Andrade landed a brutal flurry which urged the ref to jump in and save the flailing TUF veteran.

Francimir Barroso faced off against Ednaldo Oliveira in a fight that was slow to start. Round two saw some good right hands from Barroso, who stepped in on short notice to earn a UD victory over his fellow countryman.

In the final bout of the facebook segment, Rani Yahya threw down with Josh Clopton at 145lbs. The Brazilian scored a victory over Clopton after three rounds of dominant grappling. That’s three straight now for Rani at Featherweight.

On to the the FX prelims, and Ian McCall meets Iilarde Santos in a Flyweight tilt.In another exciting 125lb. bout, McCall and Santos made the case for Flyweight legitimacy with an exciting three round scrap. It was McCall’s superior speed and footwork that likely earned him the decision win.

Sergio Moraes took on Neil Magny next, and this was a very lopsided bout. Moraes was too crafty and slick on the mat, after scoring a takedown, The Panther got the mount an sunk in a tight triangle to win by submission in the opening frame.

Next up was Shiela Gaff vs. Amanda Nunes in a Woman’s Bantamweight affair. Another short lived fight, as these two went straight to it. After some wild strikes and a few scrambles, Nunes was able to win via elbows from the guard. A great debut for The Lioness, and a terrible showing for Gaff, who appeared to simply give up.

Last up on the prelims, Vinny Magalhaes goes up against Anthony Perosh at 205lbs. I was as surprised as Magalhaes was when Perosh walked in with a big right hand that clipped the charging Brazilian. A few more ground and pound shots and Vinny’s eyes are rolling after just 14 seconds. Perosh by KO!
