UFC 162 Prelims Results And Recap
UFC 162 is underway and the prelims have been an awesome display of nasty knockouts. First up, on the Facebook card, was Mike Pierce vs. David Mitchell. After a pretty inactive round one, Pierce came out gunning in the second. He landed a huge left hook to put Mitchell’s lights out in round two.
Next up Seth Baczynski welcomed Brian Melancon to the top MMA promotion in the world. He was upset in the dying seconds of the first round by the former Strikeforce fighter, Melancon had displayed big power strikes throughout the fight. His ground and pound, which he said was a tribute to Fedor, knocked Seth out cold.
Edson Barboza finished Rafaello Oliveira with a TKO by leg strikes. The Brazilian Muay Thai specialist looked in great form all the way through the fight, landing leg kick after leg kick, until Tractor was unable to stand. This marks the first time in UFC history that a fighter has earned two TKO by leg kicks, a testament to Barboza’s power. That’s two on the bounce for Barboza, who looks ready for another step up in competition.
Next up was a 17 second Heavyweight affair between Gabriel Gonzaga and Dave Herman. Herman came out early and landed two kicks, the second of wwhich was countered by a HUGE right hand from Gonzaga, levelling Herman instantly. Kim Winslow stepped in as Gonzaga rained down ground strikes, to mark the fourth consecutive KO of the evening.
Staying in the Lightweight division, we saw Kazuki Tokudome vs. Norman Parke in a total barnburner. The two men traded heavy strikes and some big takedowns in an early FOTN candidate. Kazuki showed his heart and granite chin, while his Irish counterpart showed some solid stand up and ground control. Parke took the win by way of judges decision after a hard fought war.
Up next was Andrew Craig vs. UFC legend (kinda) Chris Leben. Craig was quicker to the punch than Leben, and able to stuff most of The Crippler’s takedown attempts. Leben’s incredible ability to take a punch was on full display, he was rocked with some huge shots but managed to hang in there. TUF original wasn’t able to do enough, as the judges scored the bout in favor of Craig.
