UFC Rankings Update: Weidman Soars To No. 2 Pound-For-Pound Spot

The official UFC rankings have been updated in the aftermath of last Saturday’s (Sat., May 30, 2015) UFC Fight Night 67 from the Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil, where former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit laid waste to game challenger Thiago Alves with a relentless second round onslaught.

With his last loss to no. 3 challenger Tyron Woodley, however, ‘The Natural Born Killer’ held steady at his previously held no. 4 spot. In addition to his gruesome broken nose that earned him a potential six-month stay on the sidelines, Alves dropped one spot for the losing effort.

Surging featherweight Charles Oliveira put on a show against Nik Lentz in UFC Fight Night 67’s “Fight of the Night” submitting ‘The Carny’ in the third round after a back-and-forth affair. For his rivalry-sealing win, ‘Do Bronx’ traded spots with Dennis Bermudez and took over the no. 7 spot.

Maybe the most notable movement in the official rankings was middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s move into the no. 2 spot in the pound-for-pound rankings, taking dominant flyweight Demetrious Johnson’s spot after his impressive win over Vitor Belfort in the co-main event of May 23’s UFC 187.

Anthony Pettis and Renan Barao didn’t fight, but they did somehow move up a spot each in the pound-for-pound rankings, causing Anderson Silva to drop two rungs as he awaits discipline for his failed drug tests in conjunction with his UFC 183 win over Nick Diaz.
