UFC Philadelphia Preliminary Card Results: Marina Rodriguez Decisions Jessica Aguilar
UFC Philadelphia preliminary card results are underway as the Las Vegas-based promotion holds this latest event on television for fight fans around the world to watch the show.
It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, March 30, 2019) will come from in the form of UFC Philadelphia. Headlining the card are Justin Gaethje and Edson Barboza, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.
Jessica Aguilar vs. Marina Rodriguez in a women’s strawweight bout closes the preliminary card on ESPN in what should be an interesting fight. In round 1, Aguilar is bleeding pretty badly from the nose inside the clinch. Rodriguez with a sharp knee on the inside. The Brazilian falls to her back after a
Desmond Green vs. Ross Pearson is next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Green scores a single-leg takedown and then unloads an endless stream of right hands to the head and that’s a wrap.
Kevin Aguilar vs. Enrique Barzola is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Aguilar with a hard left hook to the body. Barzola takes a pair of leg kicks and then a left upstairs. Barzola lands a few decent punches inside before tying Aguilar up. He can’t take him down and is forced to the center of the cage to reset. In round 2, Barzola shoots in early but his takedown attempts is stuffed. A right to the head opens a cut right above Barzola’s left eye. It looks like it’s in a bad spot. Barzola misses another takedown attempt late. In round 3, Barzola lands a solid combo of punches before shooting in. Aguilar stuffs him and then forces him to reset in the center of the cage. A hard right to the head from Barzola behind two jabs and a body kick late. Aguilar got it done.
Kevin Holland vs. Gerald Meerschaert in a middleweight bout opens the ESPN preliminary bouts. In round 1, Holland begins by landing a plethora of kicks to the legs and body. Meerschaert shoots in but Holland is threatening with a guillotine. Meerschaert escapes the guillotine and explodes to his feet. Holland takes him down and lands on top. Holland is fending off the mounted guillotine nicely, but he’s not out of danger just yet. In round 2, Holland again threatens with a guillotine as he brings him down. Meerschaert is fending it off but he looks worn out already. Holland locks for the triangle off his back, but Meerschaert sees it coming and fends it off. Meerschaert scrambles to safety, but he is forced to turtle with Holland on him. In round 3, Holland is stuck in a guillotine after another scramble but he pops his head free. Holland is taken down against the cage two minutes in. Both men are gassed out and the crowd is suddenly restless. Holland got the decision win.
Ray Borg vs. Kyler Phillips in a bantamweight bout bout finishes off the ESPN+ preliminary card. In round 1, Kenney reverses Borg and takes him down. Kenney lands on top in half guard. Borg bails on a kimura, which allows Kenney to take his back. Borg explodes off his back and frees himself of Kenney. Back on their feet, Kenney is fishing for a takedown against the cage. Borg scrambles again and takes Kenney back down late. In round 2, Borg shoots in right away and then ties Kenney up against the cage. Borg finally takes Kenney down. As Kenney gets up, Borg takes his back and threatens with a rear-naked choke. In round 3, Kenney misses a foot sweep and then eats a hard right hook. Borg throws three more punches, but Kenney blocks them. Borg changes levels and scores a powerful takedown. Kyler got the win by decision.
Maryna Moroz vs. Sabina Mazo is next in a women’s flyweight bout. In round 1, Moroz drags Mazo down and winds up in her guard. Moroz lands some punches, but nothing too hard. Moroz ties Mazo up again and presses her into the cage late. In round 2, Moroz lands a few punches upstairs before tying her foe up. Moroz is trying again to take Mazo down and clinches her against the fence. Mazo lands a nice left kick to the body, her best strike thus far. Moroz is landing nice punches to the face. In round 3, Moroz has had enough of the knees and kicks to the guts and ties Mazo up against the cage. A nice left head kick for Mazo and it backs Moroz up. Moroz got the decision win.
Opening the ESPN+ prelims is Mark De La Rosa vs. Alex Perez in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, They are swinging hard early and often. Perez lands a nice left hook, but De La Rosa takes it well. De la Rosa looks for a kimura off his side, but Perez thwarts it and then lands a few hard punches from on top. In round 2, De la Rosa answers with punches upstairs. They trade punches on the feet before Perez shoots in. Perez is landing some moderate punches from within De La Rosa’s guard. Not much is happening at the moment. In round 3, Perez shoots in and scores an easy takedown, most likely sealing De La Rosa’s fate. De la Rosa needs to be launching submission attempts from every angle right now with a minute left. Perez got the decision win.
