UFC on Fuel TV 4 Results Recap: Chris Weidman destroys Mark Munoz

Tonight UFC on Fuel TV 4 presented a card that had the potential to answer several questions for the future of the UFC, namely in the hotly contested UFC Middleweight division after Anderson Silva made his claim as the undisputed champion for the time being. Wrestling has always been the perceived skillset that seemed to have the best chance, if any, to defeat the legendary champion.

The main event between Chris Weidman promised to deliver on several fronts. Of course Chris Weidman came out to overpower Munoz and did just that. He help top position in the first, looking for a guillotine. The dominance he held over Munoz was quite surprising to many, as it was not a good first round for Mark Munoz. Weidman continued to dominate early in the second, but Munoz escaped. Munoz shot in, catching a brutal elbow. Munoz then got grounded, absorbing brutal shots to end the stoppage. An amazing win for Chris Weidman, who won with class.

James Te Huna and Joey Beltran met in a Light Heavyweight bout, with Te Huna showing his striking skills early and often. Beltran appeared a bit tentative, at first, with Te Huna aggressive from the outset. While Beltran is notorious for taking a lot of damage, Te Huna’s power striking proved the difference here. While Beltran fought valiantly, he ultimately received some vicious combos from Te Huna. The third and final stanza saw the end to the fight as boring, but it was a very emotional victory for James Te Huna.

Kenny Robertson and Aaron Simpson came out throwing heavy leather. Aaron Simpson landed a nice shot and eventually turtled his opponent, raining strikes. Robertson did go for some submissions to no avail. Simpson ultimately used his wrestling to grind out a decision victory. Simpson was discouraged after the victory, emphasizing that he looks to and should be able to finish his opponents.

Karlos Vemola and GSP teammate Chris Carmont began with Vemola trying the takedown. Vemola scored the takedown and went for the guillotine to no avail. After weathering the storm, Carmont was able to use his striking skill to set up a great front kick in the second. Stunning his opponent, he transitioned a kimura into a brutal rear-naked choke to finish off Vemola, who fought tough in a losing effort. Great submission transitions led to a nice victory for Carmont.

Next up Team Alpha Male T.J. Dillashaw was set to face a man with momentum in Vaughan Lee, who recently submitted Kid Yamamoto in his last bout. The fight began with Dillashaw aggressive and Lee on his back, only to spring back up. Dillashaw eventually gained the back of Lee. A vicious neck crank around the jaw ended Vaughan Lee’s night quickly, with Dillashaw surging in his efforts as of late in the UFC.

To start off the action Anthony Njokuani, a highly touted Muay Thai fighter, faced the veteran Rafael Dos Anjos. The fight began with Dos Anjos landing a big left. The first round continued at a high pace. Rafael Dos Anjos eventually used his ground attack to take the fight to the mat as the fight wore on, scoring six takedowns. Ultimately Dos Anjos earned the unanimous decision with his effective wrestling to set up his underrated striking game.

Does Chris Weidman deserve the next shot at Anderson Silva‘s title? His performance tonight would suggest so. At 5-0 in the UFC, the sky may be the limit for this powerful well-rounded fighter.
