UFC On FOX 19 Preliminary Results: Michael Chiesa Chokes Out Beneil Dariush
It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, April 16th, 2016) will come in the form of UFC on FOX 19. Headlining the card are Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.
Michael Chiesa vs. Beneil Dariush closed the preliminary card on FOX in a lightweight bout at UFC on FOX 19. A wild case of events in this one. In the first round, Dariush dominated him with strikes and even took him down at the end of the round. In the second round, Chiesa took him down and got his back that allowed him to lock in the rear-naked choke to earn the win. This loss snapped Dariush’s five-fight winning streak.
Bethe Correia and Raquel Pennington met in a women’s bantamweight bout at UFC on FOX 19. A back and forth fight that saw both fighters have their moments. This was a stand-up war which saw Pennington winning the first round and Correira winning the second round. A close third round with Correira trying to clinch and Pennington landing some bombs. After three rounds, Pennington was given the split decision victory.
Court McGee and Santiago Ponzinibbio met in a welterweight bout at UFC on FOX 19. This one ended violently. McGee was working in the clinch early in round, but then things went downhill for him. Ponzinibbio blitzed several times in the round before landing a bomb and finishing him on the ground.
Randy Brown vs. Michael Graves opened the FOX in a lightweight bout at UFC on FOX 19. To sum up this fight, it was one sided. Graves took him down early in both rounds and just rained down elbows from the top. Brown couldn’t do anything in this fight. In the second round, Graves locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.
John Dodson vs. Manny Gamburyan in a bantamweight bout finished off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card at UFC on FOX 19. This one did not last long at all. Dodson caught him with a left jab and Gamburyan fell down. Dodson swarmed him with strikes to finish him on the ground. Very impressive performance.
Cezar Ferreira and Oluwale Bamgbose met in a middleweight bout at UFC on FOX 19. Bamgbose stunned him early in round one and dropped him, but Ferreira got to his feet and landed a big takedown. In the second round, Ferreira took him down early in this round and got guard. He landed a series of strikes. Ferreira was bleeding heavily, but it didn’t affect him as he rained down elbows for the entire round. Bamgbose pushed off and got to his feet to end the round. In the third round, after several minutes of striking, Ferreira tried to take him down mid-way through the round and got it. After three rounds, the judges gave Ferreira the decision win.
Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Omari Akhmedov vs. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos in a welterweight bout at UFC on FOX 19. An entertaining round one. Akhmedov got an early round takedown but was overtaken by Santos as he went for a heel hook. Akhmedov countered with a kimura submission attempt but was not successful. In the second round, both men had their moments on the ground as they both took each other down. Santos turned things up in the third round and was winning the fight on the feet. Santos rocked him, and Akhmedov went for a takedown, but it was stuffed. Santos blitzed him with elbows, knees and strikes while in the clinch. Akhmedov was back peddling as Santos just went off on him, and the fight was stopped.
