Brock Lesnar pleads guilty to hunting charges

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar found himself with an unwanted distraction last week when it was announced that he was facing charges in Alberta, Canada relating to a hunting trip he took in November 2010.
Today, a lawyer representing Lesnar, was able to put the case behind him with a guilty plea to one count of improper tagging of an animal.  Lesnar was fined $1,725 and given a six-month hunting suspension. Two other charges, spoiling of skin and edible flesh as well as possession of a

Frank Mir stakes his claim as best HW submission fighter in the UFC

At UFC 140, Frank Mir added a line to his MMA resume as he became the first fighter to ever submit Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. At first glance this may not seem like all that great of an achievement until you peruse Nogueira’s career record. The fight with Mir was his 42nd professional MMA bout and during that time he has fought some of the biggest names in the Heavyweight Division.
Another thing to consider is the fact the Nogueira is considered by some to be the preeminent submission artist in the

Strikeforce Recap: Gilbert Melendez beats Jorge Masvidal at his own game

Jorge Masvidal was looked upon as the fighter that was going to put Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez to the test. While he did take the champion to the five round limit, you would be hard pressed to say he put him to any type of test. Yes, Melendez’s face was far more marked up than that of Masvidal, but the stats told another story as Melendez outstruck Masvidal 145 to 109 and delivered far more power strikes, landing 94 to Masvidal’s 21.

An injury to Rob Broughton has opened the door for a long time UFC veteran to return to the fold. MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Gabriel Gonzaga will replace Broughton at UFC 142. Gonzaga will face Ednaldo Oliveira on the card, which will take place on January 14, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves set to headline UFC’s return to Australia

The UFC will make its return to Australia on March 3, 2012. The fight card will feature a main event between Martin Kampmann and Thiago Alves. In addition, the first round of the UFC’s flyweight tournament will take place on this card.
Kampmann will enter the fight following a victory over Rick Story at UFC 139. That fight was originally announced as a split decision victory for Kampmann, but was later adjusted to reflect a unanimous decision. The win over Story ended a two-fight losing streak that

ZUFFA set to eliminate Strikeforce Heavyweight Division in 2012

The announcement that Showtime and Strikeforce had inked a new deal to present six to eight fight cards on the cable network was not a real surprise as UFC President Dana White had all but officially announced the deal was done earlier in the week. What did come as a surprise was the announcement that the Strikeforce Heavyweight division would cease to exist at some point in 2012.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker had this to say about the division, which currently sits without a champion and awaits the
