UFC Fresno Preliminary Card Results: Alexis Davis Edges Out Liz Carmouche

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, December 9th, 2017) will come from in the form of UFC Fresno. Headlining the card are Cub Swanson and Brian Ortega, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Liz Carmouche vs. Alexis Davis in a female flyweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1. In round 1, Carmouche is throwing hands to start but Davis presses forward and ties up, presses Liz against the cage. Carmouche bleeding from her nose already. Knees in the clinch for Davis. They break and Davis throws straight punches. They tie up again and Carmouche hits a trip. Carmouche knees the body from top position as Davis wall-walks back to her feet. Liz in on a takedown attempt and gets Davis down in guard. Mission control for Davis and she shifts her hips looking for the armbar. Carmouche tries to pull out and pulls Davis away from the cage. Liz tries spiking Davis. In round 2, Davis throwing punches and kicks and then hits a trip to get on top. Working from half guard now. Carmouche tries to kick away but Davis follows the legs back on top. Full guard now, Carmouche tries climbing her guard up and now switches to butterfly guard. In round 3, Leg kicks land for both women, right hook for Carmouche. Giant hematoma above Davis’ left eye. Carmouche starts teeing off with power punches as Davis tries to push forward. Carmouche lands a takedown but is ensnared in mission control once again. Davis tries an armbar and gets spiked again. Carmouche spikes her way out of the armbar and passes to side control, lands elbow to the body. Davis reclaims her guard. Davis picked up the split decision win.

Andre Soukhamthath vs. Luke Sanders is next in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Sanders pressuring Soukhamthath back toward the cage before uncorking a combo. Souk circles out to center cage. Souk tries a jump-knee as Sanders pressures him back again. Sanders lands a body kick, then again. Sanders is aggressive but not landing a ton yet. Sanders follows a 2-piece into the clinch, presses Andre into the cage and dirty boxes a bit. He’s stymieing Souk but not putting him in danger. Soukhamthath lands a counter shot and drops Sanders! Polishes him off with follow-up shots.

Alex Perez vs. Carls John de Tomas is next in a flyweight bout. In round 1, CJ’s hands looking better, throwing in combination. Perez shoots but de Tomas stuffs it. Perez grabs the neck and snaps down into front headlock. D’Arce for Perez but CJ fighting it off. Perez looks for a power guillotine but has to let it go. CJ escapes and works to his feet but Perez drags him back down. Perez trying to frame up another D’Arce or work to the back but CJ fights him off. CJ gets to his feet and tries working for a takedown. Perez ducks under a hook and hits a single leg right into side control. Wrestling ride and ground for Perez now then locked in the D’Arce choke for the win.

Frankie Saenz vs. Merab Dvalishvili in a bantamweight bout opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Merab and Saenz clinch up and trade knees. Saenz gets the Thai clinch and slams home some very hard knees. Merab takedown. Saenz uses butterfly hooks to flip Merab over top of him and gets up but Merab sticking to him. Merab drags Saenz down a couple times but Saenz pops right up. Cut next to Merab’s left eye. He swings hands but Saenz gets some more clinch knees. Merab relentless with these takedown attempts. Dvalishvili hits some left hands as Saenz gets up from another takedown. Merab lands a body kick but gets countered with a right. In round 2, Saenz eats a left hook but lands good clinch knees. He’s met with an insta-takedown from Merab but he pops up yet again. Merab dirty boxing, Saenz kneeing but his back is stuck on the cage. Saenz breaks and lands leg kicks but gets countered by hooks, blocking some, not others. Merab getting takedowns nearly at will but not getting much of anything done on top. They’re throwing hands and both landing hard and just eating them. Another Merab takedown. More definitive rd for Merab, but Saenz landed some shots. In round 3, Dvalishvili takedowns for days. Saenz takedown defense is a problem but his ability to constantly get up is impressive. Merab leaking blood. Knees and a spinning elbow for Saenz. Merab getting too tired to complete these takedowns now. Saenz looking for uppercuts. Saenz was able to pick up the decision win.

Iuri Alcantara vs. Alejandro Perez in a bantamweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1, Perez misses on a couple swinging hooks. Perez closes forward and crashes into Alcantara, who stands his ground. Neither lands. Perez catches a front kick and tries to counter with a spinning backfist and misses. Alcantara gets aggressive near the end of the round. In round 2, Alcantara with some ineffectual oblique kicks, then has a head kick blocked. Perez comes up short on a right. Alcantara body kick. Perez catches another kick and slams a right hook into an off-balanced and turned Alcantara. They exchange and Iuri lands a left cross. Alcantara front kick to the body. Iuri doing little, Perez managing to do even less. Perez leg kicks and lands a jab as Iuri charges into the clinch. Alcantara counters Perez’s naked leg kicks with punches that stumble the off-balanced Mexican. Iuri shoots late but gets shucked off. In round 3, Another Alcantara front kick answered by Perez 3-2. Jab for Perez, leg kick for Iuri. More staring, pawing, and missed punches. Alcantara has another aggressive burst but Perez meets him with a takedown attempt and then pushes him into the cage when he can’t get it. Perez trips Alcantara after another caught kick. Perez lands the most meaningful strike of the fight when he drops him with a right. Perez picked up the decision win.

Chris Grutzemacher vs. Davi Ramos is next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Gritz comes forward immediately, pumping his jab. Ramos pulls him down into a hard knee and shoots but Gritz stuffs it. Gritz trips Ramos down with a leg kick and follows him to the floor to land some shots before getting back up. 3-2 for Ramos. Gritz putting out volume but Ramos lands a flying knee and a right. Ramos catches a kick and dumps Gritz. Half guard. Ramos staying heavy on top looking to pass but Gritz is keeping him at bay. Little bit of ground and pound from Ramos. In round 2, Gritz tries coming forward behind punches but he’s met by Ramos swinging hammers. Takedown for Ramos and almost an immediate standup from the referee. Ramos looking tired. Gritz pushing him back to the cage and letting punches go. He trips Ramos up with a leg kick. Ramos succeeds on a tired takedown. Gritz able to kick Ramos away quickly and get up. He lands several leg kicks. Hard jab then 1-2 for Ramos. Gritz with a stiff cross and knee. In round 3, Gritz charges out of his corner, same as first two rounds. Ramos swings and shoots. He has a rear waistlock and drags Gritz down. Gorgeous back take by Ramos and he finishes with a rear-naked choke.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Antonio Braga Neto vs. Trevin Giles in a middleweight bout. In round 1, Neto finally clinches up with Giles and trips him to the mat against the cage. Half guard. Neto tries trapping Giles’ left arm but gives up on. He drops a couple elbows. He’s controlling Giles but hasn’t put him in danger yet. Neto to the mount now, fishing for a head and arm choke. Giles gets his back to the cage and gets to his seat. In round 2, Giles is tagging Neto repeatedly now with both hands. No head movement from Neto, who seems faded already. Neto is pressuring now looking to close the distance. Giles goes to the body and circles out. Neto throwing winging hooks. Giles is getting a little wild too but Neto unable to counter effectively. Giles putting jabs and crosses on Neto at will. Neto not pressuring consistently as he continues taking this beating. They trade left hooks but Neto’s has little on it. Big Giles right. Neto tries taking the back but slips off the top and lands in a heap at Giles’ feet. Giles lets him up and slams home an overhand then a cross. 1-2 for Giles staggers Neto. Two more rights put Neto down and ref Frank Trigg jumps in to save the Brazilian!
