UFC Fighters React To Ronda Rousey’s Suicide Comments

Ronda Rousey

Social media went nuts on Tuesday when former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she almost committed suicide following her loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 by second-round KO.

Two UFC stars reacted to the news. First, the women who handed her the devastating defeat, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm, was interviewed and asked about Rousey’s comments. Holm explained that she’s not sorry for finishing Rousey and becoming the champion, but she feels her opponent’s pain.

“There’s a lot of things around that. When I heard that she said that, for me it’s one of those things it’s like, ‘How do I respond to that?'” Holm told Sherdog. “I don’t want to say I’m sorry because I think on a competitive level for me, if somebody was to say they’re sorry after [beating me], it’s like, ‘No, I’m a competitor.’ I’m not a charity case.”

“I hurt for her that she feels that way because that is a very low place. I did have a lot of help around me to where I did not feel that way,” Holm said. “People would say, ‘Oh it’s not the end of the world.’ I was like, ‘Well that’s exactly what it feels like, the end of the world.’”

“When you put your heart and soul into something and it gets shut down devastatingly, it’s terrible. It’s a horrible feeling.”

Then, former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar reacted to the news. Lesnar appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter Tuesday night to talk to Jonathan Coachman about WWE. During the interview, Lesnar was asked about Rousey.

“I’m a big fan of Ronda’s and have been since the beginning,” Lesnar said. “I think one thing that I learned, and that she should have learned a long time ago, is that you have to learn how to lose before you can actually win. That was one thing that my coach taught me at a very young age because I was a bad loser. You’ve got to be able to get back on the horse.

Lesnar believes that Rousey will get back in the gym and figure out her mistakes that she made in the fight and come back better than ever.

“This life is very precious and very short, and one fight isn’t going to make or break her career. She’s just got to get back on the horse again and figure it out and she will.”

“She can do whatever she wants to do,” said Lesnar. “She’s proven that, but I think she’s got a lot on her plate. You can’t be a fighter and be in 10 movies a year. She’s going to have to step back and find out what Ronda wants to do moving forward.”

Rousey is expected to return to MMA later this year and has said in several interviews that she wants a rematch with Holm.
