UFC Fighter Investigated For Domestic Violence Claim

UFC middleweight fighter Alex Nicholson was arrested on a domestic violence charge after an alleged physical altercation with his fiancée on in May at a 7-Eleven convenience store. The arrest report states that the charges against Nicholson were not pursued due to his fiancée not showing up at the trial on August 3rd.

The UFC is currently reviewing the case, as stated in a statement. In the report filed by the Orlando Police Department, a witness saw Nicholson pick up his fiancee then carried her outside the store and dropped her on the ground. The witness informed police that several bystanders pulled Nicholson off the woman and took her back into the store and then locked the door behind them.

Another witness stated that Nicholson forced his fiancée outside the store with his body then took her to the ground. The alleged victim was redacted in the report because the victim did not want to answer questions from officers at the scene and did not know who Nicholson was. However, Nicholson already informed the police that the two were in a relationship and then she admitted they had been together for three years.

The victim had a contusion near her temple on her head, but she would not tell them how she got it. She was crying when talking to the police and would not leave with Nicholson because “she was afraid to be around him.” The woman left with a friend and refused to fill out domestic violence paperwork. Nicholson would not answer police questions about the incident, but did say multiple times that he would not touch his fiancée

The Florida State Attorney’s Office ended the case on August 26th. The UFC issued this statement to MMA Fighting:

“UFC reviewed the matter in question and noted that the State Attorney of Florida declined to proceed with a case against Alex Nicholson, and the case was dismissed,” the UFC statement read. “UFC takes allegations of domestic violence very seriously and will refer all information to a third-party law firm for additional review. UFC is committed to thoroughly exploring all allegations and taking appropriate actions following the completion of a third-party investigation.”

The clerk at the 7-Eleven called the police and through public records, stated on the phone with police that Nicholson did not have to put his hands on his fiancée. Nicholson can be heard in the background saying he didn’t put his hands “on anybody.”

Nicholson (7-2) is coming off a win over Devin Clark in July via first round KO and is scheduled to fight Sam Alvey at UFC Fight Night 97 on Oct. 15.
