UFC Fight Night 94 Preliminary Results: Gabriel Benitez Submits Sam Sicilia

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, September 17th, 2016) will come in the form of UFC Fight Night 94.

Gabriel Benitez vs. Sam Sicilia in a featherweight bout closed the UFC Fight Night 94 preliminary card on Fox Sports 1. In round 1, Sicilia pressed forward and was looking to throw a bomb. Things settled down until the end of the round where Sicilia landed a big right hook. In round 2, Benitez dropped him right out of the gate and landed some hard elbows but Sicilia stayed in the fight and they went back to striking. Silica shot in for a takedown but Benitez locked in a guillotine choke for the win.

Augusto Montano and Belal Muhammad met in a welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 94. In round 1, both guys came out quick and were firing right away. Montano kicked him in the nuts early. Muhammad was pressing and being the more aggressive fighter. Muhammad was poked in the eye. In round 2, Muhammad scored a takedown midway through the round and got his back. Muhammad landed a series of strikes from this position as he looked for a rear-naked choke. Montano scrambled to his feet about a minute later and they went back to striking. In round 3, Muhammad took him down and got full back mount and beat him into submission.

Antonio Carlos Junior and Leonardo Augusto Leleco met in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night 94. In round 1, it was a slow start as both fighters were having a feel out process. Junior clinched with him up against the fence and worked him over with strikes. Junior kneed him in the face while Leleco had his hand down. Junior had a point taken away from him. Junior took him down to end the round and landed some shots. In round 2, Junior scored a takedown to begin the round and got his back. Junior worked him over with strikes. Leleco got back to his feet late in the round but Junior dragged him back down to the ground. Complete domination by Junior. In round 3, the story of this round was Junior taking him down and landing strikes while Leleco tried to get up and was just being slammed down to the ground. Junior got the decision win.

Joey Gomez vs. Jose Quinonez in a bantamweight bout opened the UFC Fight Night 94 Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Quinonez scored two quick takedowns in the first 30-seconds but Gomez got back to his feet right away. Quinonez was pressing forward early and aggressive. Quinonez got a takedown midway through the round and was in guard and rained down some bombs. Gomez kicked his way up but was kneed in the dome. The fight is back on and Quinonez shot for a takedown but Gomez stuffed it. Quinonez tagged him with a counter right. Quinonez took him down with two minutes to go and got guard. Quinonez landed some big shots. Gomez kicked his way up and got back to his feet. In round 2, Quinonez continued to look for a takedown but it wasn’t happening early. They had a wild brawl with under two minutes to go in the round. In round 3, Quinonez dropped him with a knee strike about a minute and half into the round. Quinonez got half guard then full mount moments later. Quinonez swarmed him with strikes. Quinonez got his back and worked for a choke but just beat him down. The judges gave Quinonez the decision win.

Randy Brown vs. Erick Montano in a welterweight bout finished off the UFC Fight Night 94 Fight Pass preliminary card. This one started off slow but ended quickly in the third round. In round 1, Brown was pressing the action early and leading in with his strikes. Montano clinched with him inside a minute into the round and press him up against the fence. They exchanged for the rest of the round. In round 2, Montano scored a takedown early in the round and got half guard where he worked Brown over with strikes. Montano passed to side control about halfway through the round. Montano moved back into guard later in the round and was just flat out dominate. In round 3, Montano went for a takedown early in the round but was caught by Brown, who locked in a guillotine choke for the win.

Opening the UFC Fight Night 94 Fight Pass prelims was Albert Morales vs. Alejandro Perez in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, they kept the fight on the feet for the entire round. Perez caught him and cut Morales’ right cheek under his eye. Some good back and forth action in the pocket. In round 2, a close round and stayed on it’s feet. Good back and forth action. A point was taken away from Perez for hitting after the bell. In round 3, Perez came out quick and clinched with him up against the fence. Perez dropped and got on top and worked him over with strikes. Morales got back to his feet and they went back to striking. Morales was bleeding heavily in this round. The judges ruled this a majority draw.
