UFC Fight Night 85 Preliminary Results: Alan Jouban TKO’s Brendan O’Reilly

Brendan OReilly vs. Alan Jouban

It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, March 19th, 2016) will come from in the form of UFC Fight Night 85. Headlining the card are Mark Hunt and Frank Mir, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Brendan O’Reilly (5-2-1) vs. Alan Jouban (13-4) closed the UFC Fight Night 85 preliminary card on Fox Sports 1 in a welterweight bout. This one did not last long. O’Reilly clinched with him and then took him down within a minute of the first round. He got the back of Jouban, but Jouban shook him off moments later. Then all hell broke loose. They started throwing bombs and had a wild exchange that resulted in Jouban dropping him with an elbow and finished the fight on the ground.

Daniel Hooker (14-6) and Mark Eddiva (6-3) met in a featherweight bout. This one did not last long. Eddiva blitzed him right out of the gate with strikes and went for a takedown, but Hooker caught him and locked in the guillotine choke and tapped Eddiva out. Very impressive.

Leslie Smith (8-6-1) and Rin Nakai (16-2-1) met in a women’s bantamweight bout. An interesting fight to say the least. Both girls come out and start exchanging wildly in round one. Nakai would later get a takedown to end the round. In the second round, Nakai got a mid-round takedown and got her back. She worked her over with strikes and looked for the rear-naked choke, but couldn’t get it. Smith would stand up and landed a head kick. In the third round, Nakai was wearing down, and it was showing in her performance. Smith was landing some big shots as her range was on point. The judges award Smith the decision victory.

Richard Walsh (9-4) vs. Viscardi Andrade (19-6) opened the UFC Fight Night 85 Fox Sports 1 preliminary card in a welterweight bout. Andrade got a takedown early in round one after dropping him. He dominated the fight with his ground strikes. Walsh landed a big right hand and dropped Andrade in the second round. Walsh got on top and tried to finish the fight, but Andrade defended himself well and survived. Andrade took him down with under a minute to go and locked in a neck choke, but the bell sound. In the third round, Andrade with a level change to set up a takedown. Andrade went for a ninja choke midway through the round, but Walsh didn’t tap, and Andrade let it go. After three rounds, Andrade was awarded the decision victory.

Ross Pearson (19-10, 1NC) vs. Chad Laprise (10-2) in a lightweight bout finished off the UFC Fight Night 85 UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. Not a ton of action in the first round. Laprise was using a lot of left leg kicks, and this was a very technically first round stand up fight. The second and third round saw an extreme level of MMA standup that made a good fight. After three rounds, Pearson was awarded the decision victory.

Opening the UFC Fight Night 85 UFC Fight Pass prelims was Alan Patrick (13-1) vs. Damien Brown (15-9) in a lightweight bout. A wild first round with both men looking to take the fight to the ground. Patrick went for several guillotine chokes in the round but was never able to finish it. Patrick took him down early in the second round and stayed on top of him for the entire round. Pure domination. In the third round, Patrick kept him down on the ground for the majority of the round and landed some good strikes. Brown got up late in the round and tried to finish, but little too late. Patrick picks up the decision victory.
