UFC Fight Night 84 Preliminary Results: Amirkhani Defeats Wilkinson
It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display this afternoon (Saturday, February 27th, 2016) will come in the form of UFC Fight Night 84. Headlining the card are Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.
Makwan Amirkhani and Mike Wilkinson met in a featherweight bout to close the preliminary card on UFC Fight Pass. Amirkhani controlled the first two rounds with his ground and pound. In the third round, Wilkinson got desperate and tried to rally back, but time ran out. The judges awarded Amirkhani the win by unanimous decision.
Davey Grant and Marlon Vera met in a featherweight bout. Grant utilized his grappling and was very impressive with his ground and pound, which he used to dominate the fight. Vera had his moments while on the feet, but really took a beating in this one. The fight went the distance with Grant picking up the decision victory.
Scott Askham and Chris Dempsey met in a middleweight bout. Dempsey came out and got a double leg takedown right away into guard. However, that was his only positive moment of the fight for him. Askham would get up and tagged him with a right hook then hit a nasty head kick for the win in the very first round.
Arnold Allen and Yaotzin Meza met in a featherweight bout. They came out and had a wild exchange in the first round. After that, Allen was the dominant fighter and had a good performance. Meza appeared not to be able to get his range figured out in this fight. Not a very good fight. Allen tagged him with just seconds to go in the third round and almost finished the fight, but the bell sounded. Allen earned the decision victory.
Krzysztof Jotko and Brad Scott met in a middleweight bout. Jotko was loading up on his punches and was not landing at all in the first-round. Scott was bleeding from his nose late in the round, which at the same time, Jotko was starting to find his rhythm. Jotko dominated the second and third round and earned a unanimous decision victory.
Rustam Khabilov and Norman Parke met in a lightweight bout. Khabilov controlled the majority of the first round with his striking. Parke started to let his hands go late in the round. Parke was headbutted, but the fight resumed. Khabilov looked for a single-leg takedown and got it with 35-seconds left in the second round. Parke controlled the third round and got an early round takedown that led to him getting back control. A very close fight that went the distance and Khabilov was awarded the unanimous decision win.
Jarjis Danho and Daniel Omielanczuk met in a heavyweight bout. Omielanczuk tagged him with a series of rights in the first-round. Omielanczuk pushed forward and really beat up Danho in this fight. Danho looked tired in through the entire fight, and the amount of strikes he threw were limited. Omielanczuk punched him in the nuts and Danho fell to the ground. The doctor was called into the cage to check on Danho. The fight was called.
Thibault Gouti and Teemu Packalen met in a lightweight bout. This one did not last long. Packalen landed a sick uppercut that dropped Gouti within seconds of the round starting. Packalen chased him and got his back and locked in the rear-naked choke for the round.
Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Martin Svensson vs. David Teymur in a lightweight bout. Both guys came out and put on an entertaining first-round that was mostly striking fest. In the second round, things came to an end. Svensson was looking for a takedown, but Teymur landed an uppercut and Svensson fell to the ground, and the fight ended.
