UFC Fight Night 80 Preliminary Results: Means KO’s Howard

It was once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Thursday, December 10th, 2015) will come from UFC Fight Night 80. Headlining the card are Rose Namajunas and Paige VanZant, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

John Howard and Tim Means met in a welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. Howard controlled the first round with his grappling and had some takedowns. In the second round, things went south for Howard. Means connected with a left hook and Howard went to sleep.

Omari Akhmedov and Sergio Moraes met in a welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. Akhmedov was in control for the majority of the fight and was up by two rounds going into the third round. However, that all changed. Moraes tagged him with a right hand then poured it on and finished him.

Kevin Casey and Antonio Carlos Junior met in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. This fight only lasted 11-seconds because Casey got poked in the eye right off the bat. Casey could not see, and this fight is over.

Johnny Eduardo and Aljamain Sterling met in a bantamweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. Sterling worked him over with leg kicks often and early. The first round was nothing to see. Things picked up in the second round. Sterling landed a single-leg takedown with 1:47 remaining. Sterling locked in a guillotine choke for the win.

Santiago Ponzinibbio and Andreas Stahl met in a bantamweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. Stahl had good takedowns, but could not do anything once the fight was on the ground. On the feet, Ponzinibbio was the superior striker and finished Stahl in the first round with a nice straight right.

Nathan Coy and Danny Roberts met in a welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. Roberts was throwing a lot of kicks early. Midway through the first round, Coy caught one and got on top. He worked him over with strikes from half guard. Roberts went for a triangle choke off his back and won the fight.

Phillipe Nover and Zubaira Tukhugov met in a featherweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. Tukhugov was the more aggressive fighter in this fight and controlled most of the action with some great takedown defense. Nover had some moments, but not enough. The judges gave Tukhugov the win by split decision.

Opening the prelims was Kailin Curran vs. Emily Kagan in a women’s strawweight bout at UFC Fight Night 80. A back and forth fight that had some exciting action in the first two minutes of the first two rounds. They would then get into a clinching fest. In the end, Curran got the back and locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.
