UFC Fight Night 66: Gegard Mousasi vs Costa Philippou Highlights

Former Strikeforce and DREAM champion Gegard Mousasi returned to action in Manila, Philippines yesterday (Saturday May 16th, 2015), facing the Cypriot Costa Philippou in a three round middleweight affair.’The Dreamcatcher’ was simply too good for Philippou, outlanding him consistently throughout.

It was clear from the start what Mousasi wanted to do; land long punches, take CP down and grind his face in to the mat. As it turned out, that’s just what happened. Mousasi probably won’t be fast tracked to a title shot with the win, but it does raise his stock a little.

We now know that he will dominate mid-tier fighters, but is really yet to prove himself against the elite in the UFC middleweight division. Potential fights for him next include a no-brainer against former opponent Ronaldo Jacare Souza, or maybe a bout with Yoe; Romero if he gets through Lyoto Machida?

The promotion’s trip to Manila was a resounding success, and much like the performance of ‘The Dreamcatcher’, it was seamless.
