UFC Fight Night 64 Medical Suspensions: Gonzaga Among Five Dealt Full Terms

UFC Fight Night 64

After getting outclassed both standing and on the ground during the first two rounds in the main event of last Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 64 from the Krakow Arena in Krakow, Poland, former Pride Grand Prix champion Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic unleashed an absolutely unstoppable barrage of elbows in the third to earn an emphatic stoppage of old nemesis Gabriel Gonzaga.

Winning his promotional return in dramatic fashion, Cro Cop also dealt veteran Gonzaga a potential full six-month medical suspension pending a CT scan of his head and face according to information released by the UFC, which served as the governing body in Poland since there is no official athletic commission in place for MMA.

Other fighters receiving full terms were co-main event winner Jimi Manuwa, who beat Jan Blachowicz by unanimous decision despite a reported torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus. Manuwa was given the full six-month suspension pending clearance of both of his shins, however.

Strawweight Joanne Calderwood could be out 180 days for her first round armbar loss to surprising young challenger Maryna Moroz.

She joined Sheldon Westcott and Anthony Hamilton for a total of five fighters who received full suspensions for UFC Fight Night 64. Note that many fighters who receive full suspensions often return much earlier with a doctor’s clearance; the reported timeframes are normally precautionary.
