UFC Fight Night 60 Prelims Results: Escudero Dominates De Lima
We have a feature bout between Benson Henderson and Brandon Thatch to look forward to later tonight (Saturday February 14th), but don’t sleep on the preliminary card. The original feature bout on the undercard was an exciting pairing of feisty featherweights Nik Lentz and Thiago Tavares, as “Carny” and the returning Brazilian looked to make headway in the busy division.
Unfortunately Lentz was rendered unable to compete by doctors, after Thiago Tavares was injured and replaced by Leon Makahsvilli. Bad times. Moontasri vs Pfister was bumped up to the FOX Sports prelims and the Fight Pass card was scrapped.
Efrain Escudero takes on Rodrigo De Lima at lightweight, and De Lima gets clocked clean in the early exchanges. Now Escudero spikes Lima in a slam, ouch that looks very nasty. Escudero throwing bombs, and he drops De Lima again with punches. The Brazilian wants none of the stand up, and smothers Escudero to end the first round. Eye poke from De Lima, Escudero is good though. Escudero looking polished in his stand up skills right now.
The Brazilian wants this fight on the ground because he is getting pretty banged up, but the takedowns are getting stuffed now. De Lima pulls guard but Esudero just starts bombing on him from the guard. Round three, and a huge right lands for Escudero, RDL looking pretty battered now, EE smells a finish. The Mexican is mixing it up really well now, drives on a double and it’s back to the ground punches. An obvious decision win for Escudero.
The highly touted Jim Alers will face hard-nosed scrapper Chas Skelly at 145 pounds. Damn Alers throws some seriously big shots, Skelly responds well too. Both with great chins here, they rock chins with left hooks, and Skelly surprisingly looks to be getting off more powerful punches. The pace slows slightly in round two, until Skelly rocks Alers clean with two straight right hands. Skelly opens up with a barrage of right hands, a knee to the chops looks borderline illegal, but the referee waves it off. Wow, huge win for “Scrapper”; TKO in round two. Turns out that knee was illegal.
Down to flyweight, and Tim Elliott takes on Zach Makovsky in a lively affair. Makovsky wanted to get this fight to the ground, and did it early on with some big slams. A crucifix position saw the fight nearly finished in round one, but Elliott is a seriously tough dude. Round two was a lot better from Elliott, but Makovsky tied the fight up on the mat in the last round. Huge slam by Elliott now as he picks Makovsky up and drops him hard. “Pint Size” by UD.
Jake Lindsey and James Moontasri will duke it out at 155 pounds to open the evening’s festivities. Big knees by “Moonwalker” early on, and he is proving to be very hard to take down. Brutal spinning back kick and then a knee by Moontasri, Pfister is in serious trouble here but he somehow survives. Moontasri eventually gets the finish with a rear naked choke in round two. Great win for “Moonwalker”.
