UFC Fight Night 59: Benson Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone Highlights
UFC Fight Night 59 went down tonight (January 18, 2015) live on Fox Sports 1 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The main event featured a featherweight bout between Irish sensation Conor McGregor and German striker Dennis Siver.
With all eyes on McGregor, the co-main event seemed slightly overlooked, but it was a very interesting matchup that could have easily been the main event as former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson battled the surging Donald Cerrone for the third time.
With Cerrone stepping in after competing just 15 days ago and Henderson coming off a brutal knockout loss, fans weren’t sure what to expect, and the result was a very close fight and a questionable decision.
What was odd about the fight, was that the roles were almost reversed in a way. “Cowboy” Cerrone actually scored two takedowns on Henderson, who was thought to be the stronger wrestler. On the other hand, “Smooth” landed some big kicks, which Cerrone is known for.
Throughout the fight, it seemed as if Henderson was getting the better of the exchanges, and Cerrone couldn’t quite figure out the puzzle standing in front of him. “Cowboy” attempted to pressure forward, but swung and missed. When he backed up, trying to lure Henderson in, he got caught.
However, in typical Cerrone fashion, he turned it up at the end of the third round with a late burst of energy. That combined with his takedowns seemed to sway the judges his way, despite many believing Henderson had gotten the better of “Cowboy”.

Regardless of the fan’s opinions, Cerrone was able to secure his ultra-impressive seventh straight win, putting him even closer to a coveted lightweight title shot. There seems to be only one man left for “Cowboy” to face in order to receive that shot, and that would be Khabib Nurmagomedov. Would you like to see that fight next, or should Cerrone take on another foe?
