UFC Fight Night 51 Prelims Results: “Pepey” Finishes Fast
UFC Fight Night 51 is well underway, the the five-fight Fight Pass prelims delivering some great bouts. The first fight of the evening was a bantamweight rematch between Johnny Bedford and Rani Yahya. What a crazy first round, as Yahya refuses a glove tap and shoots straight in swinging. An illegal head kick halted the action, but it ended up being a close round.
Another crazy start to the second, and Yahya ends up in half control, and twists the kimura for the second round tap. Welterweight veteran Paulo Thiago returns now, as he faces up-and-comer Sean Spencer. Fernando Yamasaki huh? This fight did not start well for Thiago, as the younger man Spencer almost scores a first-punch knockout with the right hand. Thiago survived the round, but looks tired.
All-in-all a pretty tough night for Thiago, as Sean Spencer gets the one-sided UD. Leandro Silva and Francisco Trinaldo have some unfinished business at lightweight now. A cagey first round saw Silva come out with fire, almost submitting “Massaranduba” in the second round. The third round was by far the most fun, but the decision was terrible. Unanimous decision win for Trinaldo, what a joke.
Igor Araujo and George Sullivan at welterweight next, and the first round was all Sullivan. GS has a size and strength advantage, and the second round showed that. Three huge right hands from half guard put Araujo out COLD. The feature prelim fight is Godofredo “Pepey” Castro vs Dashon Johnson at featherweight, and these guys come out looking to hurt each other.
Wow! What a finish! After a big exchange on the feet, Johnson scores a big slam in to Castro’s guard. “”Pepey” wraps up the triangle, flips to mount, and locks in the straight armbar too. Great first round win for “Pepey”.
