UFC Fight Night 116 Preliminary Results: Olivier Aubin-Mercier Edges Out Tony Martin

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, September 16th, 2017) will come from in the form of UFC Fight Night 116. Headlining the card are Luke Rockhold and David Branch, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Tony Martin vs. Olivier Aubin-Mercier in a lightweight closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1. In round 1, Action starting to pick up halfway through the round. Martin starts to find the range and Aubin-Mercier ducks under for a single. Martin lands an uppercut to the body. He narrowly takes the round. In round 2, Aubin-Mercier coming out with more urgency to start R2. He lands a leg kick, right hand, then another. Martin stalking and eats body kick. Aubin-Mercier shoots and pushes Martin into the fence. He trips him to the mat again. Butterfly guard for Martin nearly results in a sweep. OAM struggling to get much work done on the mat. Martin gets back to his feet but Aubin-Mercier sticks to him and trips him down again. Martin lands an upkick as Aubin-Mercier postures. Short right hands for Aubin-Mercier but the butterfly guard isn’t letting him do much. In round 3, Now Aubin-Mercier shoots low and finds himself ensnared in a D’Arce. He escapes but now he on bottom of half guard. Aubin-Mercier gets back to full guard. Martin postures and lands some rights. Now he takes the back. Martin landing left hands to soften up Aubin-Mercier, but hasn’t seriously tried rear-naked choke yet. He rides out the round on the back. The judges gave the win to Aubin-Mercier by split decision.

Daniel Spitz vs. Anthony Hamilton is next in a heavyweight bout. In round 1, Spitz landed a big right hand that drops Hamilton and follow-up shots to finish the fight!

Uriah Hall vs. Krzysztof Jotko is next in a middleweight bout. In round 1, Hall letting himself get backed to the cage Jotko lands a big uppercut and now he’s swarming. Jotko in half and he starts piling on. Hall turns his back and gets mounted. Reclaims half but Jotko back to mount, now back. Hall staves off the choke but he’s back in mount. He just powers his way back to his feet. Jotko resumes his assault. Hall fires back with right hands, which backs Jotko up but just for a moment. Hall sees the final bell somehow. In round 2, Hall showing better urgency about getting away from the cage which is good because Jotko tees off every time. Hall body kick, then just misses a spinning hook kick. He tries a wheel kick but doesn’t have the distance. Hall comes back and drops Jotko w an overhand and polishes him off with punches. Wow!

Gilbert Burns vs. Jason Saggo in a lightweight bout opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, They exchange body kicks at the same moment. Burns misses on a wild overhand. Leg kicks from both men then a 2-3 for Burns. Burns right lands audibly and draws a reaction from the crowd. Another then a leg kick. Finally, Burns shoots and stuffed. Saggo lands a leg kick but he’s getting backed up. Burns is scoring with his hands. Saggo catches a kick and trips Burns down. He has Saggo on his back on the second attempt and gets the back no hooks. Saggo gets to his feet but eats a final flurry. In round 2, Again Saggo doesn’t want to engage and referee lets Burns up. Saggo staying busy and lands a head kick. Saggo with body kick then a left hook but he’s met with another 3-2. Burns shoots and now he’s deep on the hips, picks Saggo up and slams. An overhand right from Burns just at the end of the round flattens Saggo.

Lightweight: Gilbert Burns def. Jason Saggo by knockout (punch) at 4:55 of Round 2
