UFC Fight Night 109 Preliminary Results: Pedro Munhoz Decisions Damian Stasiak

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display today (Sunday, May 28th, 2017) will come from in the form of UFC Fight Night 109. Headlining the card are Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Pedro Munhoz vs. Damian Stasiak in a bantamweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1. In round 1, Munhoz with a high kick glances off Stasiak, who comes back with a 1-2. Munhoz is stabbing front kicks into Munhoz’s gut. Stasiak shoots, finds himself in Munhoz’s signature guillotine but fights out. Back on the feet Munhoz lands hard overhand.In round 2, Stasiak walks into a nasty left had to start the round, then he whiffs on spinning backfist. They trade jabs, then Stasiak 1-2, and spinning kick. Munhoz is walking Stasiak down but isn’t throwing enough. Stasiak is stepping in to land a couple shots before circling out. A caught kick takes the fight to the floor, Munhoz threatening to take the back. Now he’s up, fighting the hands. Munhoz lands a big right as they break but Stasiak is game. He’s forced to move backward and sometimes gets clipped hard. Stasiak throwing and landing more, but Munhoz harder. Stasiak hits an uppercut as Munhoz shoots then gets stuffed himself. In round 3, Stasiak stuffs a shot and uncorks another spinning backfist. Munhoz unleashes a combo in the pocket, grabs the head. Munhoz bails on the choke and scores a takedown a moment later. Ref standup follows. Munhoz more aggressive now. Munhoz gets a takedown and takes the back with 90 sec left. Stasiak gets to his feet w/ Munhoz clinging to him. Munhoz slams him. Stasiak keeps getting up, Munhoz keeps taking him down. Finally Stasiak fights the hands and escapes. They trade to the bell. Munhoz picked up the decision win.

Trevor Smith vs. Chris Camozzi is next in a middleweight bout. In round 1, a low inside leg kick for Smith, then a right hand. Smith ducks under for a takedown. Camozzi has Smith’s arm tied up in an omoplata, but the fence is in the way. Smith gets out, has a wrestling ride landing rights. Camozzi briefly got his back off the fence but elected to go for knees from Thai plum, allowing Smith to take him down. Smith ends the round with punches and elbows in half guard. In round 2, Camozzi lands a low leg kick and despite getting tripped up, Smith is able to grab a leg, off-balance Camozzi and get on top. Smith grinding away from half guard, staying busy with punches and elbows against the base of the cage. Camozzi is bloodied up. In round 3, Camozzi is really fighting the Smith takedown advances, but Smith staying on him. Smith with a right hand, reenters the clinch. Smith finally drags Camozzi down with a single leg and he sets up in half once again. Smith has worked his way to mount, but Camozzi pushes him back down to butterfly guard. The judges gave Smith the decision win.

Reza Madadi vs. Joaquim Silva is next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Silva circling backward, right hand cocked. He lands a front kick then a knee as Madadi closes. Madadi with a takedown, Silva powers up. Madadi hits a second takedown and this time holds position. He’s in half guard holding Silva down. Silva gets to butterfly guard. Silva throws up a triangle, Madadi pushes forward back into guard. In round 2, a Silva head kick drops Madadi but he pops right up. Now they’re exchanging power punches, each hurting the other. Madadi hits a takedown but Silva powers up. Silva pumping his jab. Clinch then big Madadi right. A Silva head kick wobbles Madadi but he shakes it off. Silva has him backed up and slams punches into his guard. Madadi rocks Silva with spinning backfist. Silva working Madadi’s body with punches, Mad Dog throwing back. In round 3, Reza opens with body kick, Silva pushes through it to back him up with combo punches. Silva trying to be the first to finish Madadi. The Swede hits a takedown but finds himself ensnared in a guillotine, escapes. Silva works his way back up but Madadi picks him up and dumps him. Madadi grinding in guard again like round 1. Silva nearly sweeps. Madadi has to get to his feet to avoid being on his back. A spinning backfist hits for Madadi but he’s off-balance, and falls. Madadi went for a power throw, lost control and Silva able to scramble into top control. Landing heavy ground and pound now. Silva jumps on him and takes the back, but Madadi escapes out the backdoor. He has a takedown reversed, now it’s Silva on top. The judges gave the win to Silva.

Nico Musoke vs. Bojan Velickovic in a welterweight bout opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Musoke comes forward behind a right. They trade leg kicks before a clinch. Nico with a trip takedown. Musoke on top with Bojan on his seat against fence. Serbian Steel boxing Musoke’s ears as the Swede tries to climb up the legs. Musoke lets up his suffocating pressure to land hard rights as Bojan gets up. Two hard crosses for Bojan. Nico high kick blocked. They trade hooks until Musoke catches a kick and follows it into the clinch. Bojan fights off the takedown. Musoke sends a blistering left glancing off Bojan’s head. The Serb comes back with a body kick. In round 2, a left hand-right high kick glances off Bojan’s mug. He presses forward, lands a left but eats a left hook in return. Velickovic ducks under for his own takedown but Musoke right up. Bojan has high kick countered by a right. He falls, but right back up. In round 3, Bojan active with leg kicks, Nico with left hooks. Nice 1-2 for Bojan. Nico presses forward, shoots, but Bojan snatches the neck. They scramble as Musoke escapes the choke, now back up. Bojan shoots for a takedown but stuffed. Velickovic landed a big right hook that put Musoke out on his feet then fell down and Velickovic finished him with strikes on the ground.

Darren Till vs. Jessin Ayari in a welterweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1, Ayari backs Till back toward the fence, lands a leg kick on the southpaw. Till with a cross. A Till left seems to wobble Ayari, and Till ups the aggression. Another left buckles Ayari but he stays composed. Ayari’s got a chin on him. He blocks a head kick. Till steps in with an elbow then ducks under for takedown, Ayari scrambles up. Ayari seems to have recovered. Till trips him down but Ayari right up again. Ayari rushes forward with a right but it’s short. Another Till left glances off Ayari’s mug. The German is having trouble finding his range. In round 2, Till and Ayari land punches simultaneously, but Till follows with a leg that staggers Ayari. Till gets Ayari down. Ayari kicks the Englishman away, gets up and lands a knee. Now he’s in on a takedown. Till blatantly grabs the top of the cage. Ayari gets a brief takedown from rear waist lock. Till up and landing his crushing left but Ayari’s beard holding up. Till knockdown. In round 3, Till is really only using one weapon, but his reach, timing, and power are winning him this fight. Ayari with knees in clinch. Ayari is forced to rush forward to close distance or get swatted by long kicks. Ayari tries to clinch, gets tossed into cage. Till picked up the decision win.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Marcin Held vs. Damir Hadzovic in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Held comes out pumping his jab moving forward, Hadzovic responds with a knee to the body. A head kick glances off Held. Held doing well with dirty boxing uppercuts when the pocket closes. Hadzovic has a powerful right hand cocked but Held gets a takedown. Held postures up from half guard but Damir gets his guard back with the space. Short elbows from the Pole, he passes to half guard. Hadzovic reclaims guard, Held falls back for a leg but quickly gives it up. Now he has Hadzovic’s back. He ends the round there.In round 2, Held opens with a wheel kick, partially blocked. He then ducks under immediately for another takedown, but Damir has the fence. Held gets the back again, this time with Damir standing. Hadzovic shakes him off and lands a hard right on the inside. They clinched up against the fence and Hadzovic landed a solid elbow strike. Held caught a kick and took him down. Held went for a brabo choke but Hadzovic got out of it. Held gets mount and transitions immediately to the back and once again ends the round there. In round 3, Held went for a takedown but Hadzovic landed a sick knee strike that put Held out cold.
