UFC Fantasy Fights 2015 Edition
UFC Fantasy Fights returns at LowKickMMA, once again signalling the end of a hectic, but somewhat less productive year for the world’s biggest MMA org. With an already jam packed calender for 2015, we can look ahead at a few of the bookings that would certainly have our wallets itching at PPV (pay-per-view) time.

TJ Dillashaw vs Dominick Cruz
Former bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz had just emerged from a long and storied battle back from injury at UFC 178. “The Dominator” smashed Takeya Mizugaki, and everything was on track for what many believed to be a unification bout with the current boss TJ Dillashaw. Although “The Viper” had won the belt fair and square, Cruz had never actually lost it.
After three years out of action, “The Dominator” became a big fan favorite with his emotional comeback knockout, and even re-ignited the rivalry with Team Alpha Male. The news that Cruz suffered yet another ACL tear in training is heart breaking, but he has also vowed to return in 2015. If Dillashaw is still the boss, I’d just love to see this fight happen. Either way, you’d have to imagine that “The Dominator” gets an instant title shot.
Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman 3/Vitor Belfort 2
With Chris Weidman set to face Vitor Belfort at UFC 184 in February, and Anderson Silva readying for his comeback fight at UFC 183 against Nick Diaz, the stage could well be set for either of these epic fights. Questions remained unanswered after the first two fights with “The All-American”, and there’s no reason the UFC wouldn’t pursue a trilogy maker if “The Spider” starches Diaz.
Either that, or “The Phenom” shocks the odds and defeats Weidman for the belt, in which case we could see two of the sport’s biggest names rematch each other. Silva famously knocked Belfort out with a front kick at UFC 126, in a highlight reel finish that has become legendary. Either way, Silva fighting for a title if he beats Diaz would be great to see.
Anthony Pettis vs Jose Aldo
What can we say more about this fight? It is a pairing that has eluded MMA fans for years now, and doesn’t show any sign of materializing any time soon. The two were first officially booked to fight at UFC 163, until yet another knee injury forced “Showtime” to withdraw. The idea of the two colliding has been thrown around long before their booking, but the time is surely right now.
Pettis nabbed the belt from Benson Henderson before injuring himself again in late 2013, and has since returned to defend it against Gilbert Melendez. “”Scarface” continues his domination of the near-cleared out featherweight division, and there really is no reason that he shouldn’t face “Showtime”, should the Brazilian win his next fight (likely against Conor McGregor), or even if he loses.
Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 2
The rematch of their epic first meeting at UFC 165 has been long awaited, but has been also somewhat cursed. After Gustafsson was injured and forced from the pair’s booked bout at UFC 178, the promotion decided that “Bones” was not to wait around. The champion was booked to face Daniel Cormier at UFC 178, until a sparring injury forced Jones from the date too.
In a cruel twist of fate, “Bones” vs “DC” was booked for UFC 182 in January, on a date that “The Mauler” would have been ready to return. Now we have Gus vs Anthony Johnson in January also, so the likelyhood of Jones vs Gustafsson 2 is greatly diminished, but hell, we deserve to see it!
So 2015 promises some huge fights already in the early months, but the above would help to pick up what the UFC started in 2013, and lacked in 2014. Happy new year MMA fans and LowKickMMA crew!
