Glover Teixeira vs. Patrick Cummins Set For Fight Night 77

MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani has reported that the UFC is targeting a potential light heavyweight bout between former title challenger and No. 3-ranked Glover Teixeira and No. 10-ranked Patrick Cummins. Apparently the UFC is looking to book this bout for UFC Fight Night 77 which is set for November 7, 2015 in Brazil.

Teixeira recently got back to his winning ways, scoring a third-round submission victory over the previously surging Ovince Saint-Preux in the main event of UFC Fight Night 73 which went down on August 8, 2015. Prior to that, Teixeira had dropped two-straight to former champion Jon Jones, and Phil Davis.

Cummins on the other hand, known for his decorated wrestling background, made his UFC debut on extremely short notice, taking on current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier back at UFC 170 in 2014. Cummins was starched by “DC” but has since gone 4-1 inside of the Octagon, and has looked rather impressive in doing so.

It may seem as if Teixeira is taking on some lesser competition than he’s used to with this potential bout, but at the same time, most of the top ranked light heavyweights are book as of now. For Cummins, this is a phenomenal opportunity to prove that he can hang with the 205-pound elite.

UFC Fight Night 77 is being headlined by a trilogy bout between ageing middleweights and former champions Dan “Hendo” Henderson, and Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort. Henderson took a home a decision victory the first time around which was actually in Pride back in 2006. Belfort, however, knocked “Hendo” out cold in the rematch at a UFC Fight Night card in 2013.

Update

It has since been confirmed that Texeira and Cummins have been added to the UFC Fight Night 77 card.
