UFC 210 Preliminary Results: Myles Jury TKO’s Mike De La Torre

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, April 8th, 2017) will come from in the form of UFC 210. Headlining the card are Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Myles Jury vs. Mike De La Torre in a featherweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1. Jury with an effortless single leg takedown in the first 30 seconds and got his back. Jury works him over with several strikes to earn the TKO victory.

Kamaru Usman vs. Sean Strickland is next in a welterweight bout. In round 1, Strickland kicked low and Usman acted like he got kicked low but the fight continued. Usman clinched and landed a series of knees. Usman took him down midway through the round and Strickland went for his legs but couldn’t lock in a submission hold. In round 2, Usman undaunted standing, backing the much larger, technical man up and launching off quality power punches. Usman shoots, Strickland sprawls, but Usman pops up, destroys him with a massive right. Strickland down, eating hammers, recovers. Usman continued to outstrike him on the feet. The judges gave Usman the lopsided decision.

Shane Burgos vs. Charles Rosa is next in a featherweight bout. Round 1, after exchanging for the majority of the round, Rose kicked him low and we have a pause in the action. Burgos bursts forward with a combination. Rosa falls after a spinning kick but they’re back to striking. Round 2, Rosa with a takedown to start round 2 but Burgos doing a great job to get back to his feet. They exchanged to the bell. Round 3, Rosa is rocked. He is eating a series of shots and his legs are gone. That’s it! Burgos with the TKO.

Patrick Cummins vs. Jan Blachowicz in a light heavyweight bout opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Blachowicz knocked him down and swarmed him. Cummins survived and went for an anaconda choke but lost it. Cummins with a back elbow and Blachowicz  with a body kick. Blachowicz stunned him again with a combo. Cummins was cut under his right eye. Blachowicz rocked him with an uppercut then clinched with him. Cummins scored a takedown and worked him over with strikes from guard. Blachowicz uses a triangle attempt to get to his feet and the round ends. In round 2, Cummins was bleeding badly from the top of his head. Cummins took him down and nearly Big Jon as well. Blachowicz stood up and briefly gets Cummins on the mat but they’re back to their feet now. In round 3, Cummins took him down and got guard as he worked him over with strikes midway through the rounds. Blachowicz got to his feet and started throwing leg kicks. Cummins clinched and landed a series of knees. Cummins scored a takedown and worked him over with strikes from guard. The judges gave the win to Cummins via majority decision.

Gregor Gillespie vs. Andrew Holbrook in a lightweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. Gillespie landed a 1-2 punch then a left hook and finished him on the ground with strikes. This one is over.

Josh Emmett vs. Desmond Green is next in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Emmett answers Green’s 1-2 with an outside leg kick. Emmett favoring the overhand right, leg kicks outside. Green stalks then looks to explode with counter hooks. Glancing so far.  Emmett kicked him in the groin and we have a pause in the action. They exchanged to the bell. In round 2, Emmett went for a takedown after landing some jabs but it was stuffed. In round 3, Emmett comes forward like a mad man and gets taken down. He goes for a leg but Green is privy to it and is out of any danger. Emmet gets back to his feet. The pace slows in the final 60 seconds. No real quality strikes thrown or landed. The judges gave the win to Green the split decision win.

Katlyn Chookagian vs. Irene Aldana is next in a female bantamweight bout. In round 1, Chookagian was throwing kicks early in this round. Aldana was mixing up her angles to land quick counters. They exchanged some jabs. Aldana with harder shots, but Chookagian with a high volume of clean kicks all over her foe.In round 2, Aldana coming out strongly to start round two and forcing her way past Chookagian’s kicking range. Aldana putting on the pressure in round 2 but still finding it difficult to get within the kicking range of Chookagian. Chookagian knocks Aldana down briefly, more of a slip though. Aldana keeps stuffing takedowns. In round 3, series of leg kicks by Chookagian but she gets cracked with a right hand. They exchanged to the bell. The judges gave the win to Chookagian via split decision.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Jenel Lausa vs. Magomed Bibulatov in a flyweight bout. In round 1, there was little action in the first three minutes of this round. The fans started to boo. Bibulatov clinched and kneed him in the groin. They are separated. Bibulatov almosts lands with a spinning back kick at the end of round 1 and lands a knee very late after the bell. In round 2, Bibulatov landed a big uppercut then a kick. Lausa went for a takedown but couldn’t get it and clinched with him. They separated and Lausa took him down after Bibulatov missed a wild kick. Bibulatov got to his feet and kicked him in the groin, which got him a point being taken away. Bibulatov took him down midway through the round and busted open Lausa nose with a strikes. In round 3, Bibulatov scored a takedown to open the round and got side control.  Bibulatov worked over with strikes to end the round. The judges gave  Bibulatov the decision win.
