UFC 205 Preliminary Results: Frankie Edgar Beats Jeremy Stephens In Classic Battle

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, November 12th, 2016) will came in the form of UFC 205. Headlining the card are Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens in a featherweight bout closed the preliminary card on FOX Sports. In round 1, Stephens presses forward but Edgar clinches with him about a minute into the round. Moments later, Edgar clinches with him and gets a brief takedown but Stephens stayed up. Under two minutes to go, Edgar scored another takedown but Stephens got back to his feet. They exchanged to the bell.

In round 2, Edgar pressures him and went for a takedown and got it with a little over a minute into the round. Edgar got his back but Stephens scrambled back to his feet. Stephens lands a huge head kick that stunned Edgar. Edgar drops but gets back to his feet and creates space but was stumbling around the cage. Edgar scores a takedown with less than a minute to go and locked in the guillotine choke but Stephens got out of it. Edgar stays on him in half guard and worked him over with strikes. Edgar rained down strikes from mount to end the round.

In round 3, Edgar came out and takes him down then gets into half guard and works him over. Stephens went for a kimura off his back but Edgar gets out. Stephens scrambled to his feet and they exchanged to end the fight. Edgar earned the unanimous decision victory.

Michael Johnson and Khabib Nurmagomedov met in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Johnson comes out blasting but Nurmagomedov shot in and took him down halfway through the round. Nurmagomedov transitioned to half guard and worked him over with strikes. Johnson tries to scramble but Nurmagomedov holds him down and just smashes his face in with strikes and elbows. Nurmagomedov clips him but Johnson survives the round somehow. In round 2, Nurmagomedov pressures him then clinches with him but Johnson got out of it. Johnson followed up with a left hook. Nurmagomedov shot in for a takedown but it was stuffed. Nurmagomedov took him down over a minute into the round and got guard. Johnson attempted a guillotine choke but Nurmagomedov got out of it and got into the crucifix position and landed a series of strikes. Nurmagomedov got half guard and just rained down strikes until the buzzer sounds. In round 3, Nurmagomedov took him down to begin the round and worked him over with strikes from half guard. Nurmagomedov got mount but Johnson scrambled and Nurmagomedov went to half guard. Nurmagomedov locked in a kimura for the win.

Tim Boetsch and Rafael Natal met in a middleweight bout. Another quick knockout finish. Natal comes out and presses the action. Natal was working over the body of Boetsch with kicks. Natal has a cut over his left eye due to a punch. Boetsch starts to pressure. Natal landed a spinning back fist. Boetsch landed a big right hand that dropped him and then finished Natal on the ground.

Vicente Luque vs. Belal Muhammad in a lightweight opened the Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts. Luque came out and dropped him with a left hook then finished him off with some strikes on the ground to stop the fight.

Thiago Alves vs. Jim Miller in a lightweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1,  Alves opens up with a good knee strike to the face of Miller. They have a feeling out process early. Alves landed a big head kick but Miller followed up with a takedown halfway through the round. Miller got guard and worked him over with strikes. Miller transitions and gets his back with under two minutes to go. Alves scrambles and got back to his feet but Miller clinches with him with 1:30 to go. They eventually separate. In round 2, they exchanged for the first half of the round. Miller takes him down halfway through the round and gets half guard. Miller holds him down while Alves tried to scramble off his back. Alves scrambled back to his feet with a little over a minute remaining and blasts him with knee strikes. Miller clinches with him and Alves separated by missing a spinning back fist. In round 3, Miller took him down halfway through the round and worked him over with strikes from guard but Alves got back to his feet. Miller took him back down and got half guard. Miller worked him over then got guard with less than a minute to go. Miller scored the unanimous decision victory.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims was Liz Carmouche vs. Katlyn Chookagian in a women’s bantamweight bout. In round 1, Chookagian keeps her distance and uses a series of leg kicks early on in the fight. Carmouche followed up with a leg kick and body punch. Carmouche closed the distances and dropped her on her back with a nice takedown. Chookagian tries to use the cage to get back to her feet. Chookagian got back to her feet but Carmouche stayed on her and clinched with the remaining two minutes. Carmouche took her down with a minute to go and got guard. Carmouche works her over with strikes. In round 2, Carmouche came out strong and went for a takedown but Chookagian landed a series of knees while in the clinch before separating. Carmouche took her down halfway through the round and went for a guillotine choke but Chookagian scrambles out of it. Chookagian got back into guard with a little over two minutes to go. In round 3, Chookagian opened up the round with a series of strikes then a huge head kick that dropped Carmouche. Chookagian rains down strikes but Carmouche got back up to her feet and clinched. Chookagian landed some more knees. Carmouche starts to bleed from her nose. Chookagian continues to pressure her but Carmouche does separate from her. Halfway through the round, Carmouche clinches with her but Chookagian separates and starts landing big shots. Carmouche attempts a takedown to end the round but doesn’t get it. The judges awarded Carmouche the win by split decision.
