UFC 204 Preliminary Card Results: Iuri Alcantara Chokes Out Brad Pickett

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, October 8th, 2016) will come in the form of UFC 204. Headlining the card are Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Iuri Alcantara vs. Brad Pickett in a bantamweight bout closed the UFC 204 preliminary card on Fox Sports 1. This one did not last long. Alcantara dropped him with a big right hand and swarmed him with strikes. Pickett tried to scramble but Alcantara locked in a triangle choke on him and won the fight. Pickett was bleeding heavily from his nose.

Davey Grant and Damian Stasiak met in a bantamweight bout at UFC 204. In round 1, Stasiak scored a single-leg takedown just seconds into the round and got guard. Grant scrambled to his feet moments later. Grant clinched with him up against the fence and took him down. Stasiak scrambled to his feet midway through the round and clinched. Grant took him down and transitioned into half guard. Stasiak scrambled back to his feet with under two minutes to go. Stasiak took him down with just seconds left in the round and got half guard. In round 2, Grant was pressing forward then landed a big knee and then an elbow that rocked Stasiak. Grant started just going off on Stasiak and was finding success with his strikes. Stasiak took him down near the end of the round and got full mount and rained down strikes. Grant scrambled to his feet to end the round. In round 3, Grant took him down and was in guard when Stasiak caught him with an armbar for the win.

Leon Edwards and Albert Tumenov met in a welterweight bout at UFC 204. In round 1, Edwards clinched with him up against the fence and took him down. Midway through the round, Edwards got half guard then mount and back to half guard with two minutes to go. Edwards was not playing around. Tumenov scrambled and got to his feet with a little over a minute to go in the round. Edwards scored another takedown and got his back to end the round. In round 2, Edwards was looking to take the fight to the ground but Tumenov was using good takedown defense and wasn’t allowing any takedowns. They stand and traded for the entire round. In round 3, Edwards was once again looking to take the fight to the ground and did so when he caught a kick and got back mount in the middle of the round. Edwards locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.

Marc Diakiese and Lukasz Sajewski in a lightweight bout opened the UFC 204 Fox Sports 1 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Sajewski takes him down right out of the gate and got side control. Sajewski transitioned into full mount and worked him over with strikes. Diakiese scrambled and hit a powerslam to get to his feet and landed a series of strikes. Sajewski with a trip takedown into half guard. Diakiese got back to his feet and Sajewski clinched to end the round. In round 2, Diakiese opened the round with a big jumping knee. Sajewski looked visibly tired and wasn’t able to take advantage of the opening. Diakiese started picking him apart with kicks and uppercuts. Diakiese tee’d off on Sajewski near the end of the round and the fight was stopped after Sajewski stopped defending himself.

Mike Perry and Danny Roberts in a welterweight bout finished off the UFC 204 Fight Pass preliminary card. A fun fight. In round 1, Perry blitzed him, pressed him up against the fence and landed a knee to the body then dropped him. Perry got on top in side control and rained down strikes. Roberts scrambled to his feet with under a minute to go and landed a stiff body kick. Perry dropped Roberts to end the round and swarmed him with strikes on the ground. In round 2, Perry continued to advance forward and was landing strikes. Perry put him up against the fence and landed some good knees. Perry tagged him towards the end of the round, dropped him, got full mount and blasted him with strikes to wrap up the round. Roberts was bleeding heavily. In round 3, both guys come out scrapping and Roberts was swinging for the fences. Roberts tagged Perry with some good combos. Roberts landed a head kick as the cut under his eye continues to bleed. Perry landed a knee to the head then some right hands and Roberts went to sleep.

Opening the UFC 204 Fight Pass prelims was Adriano Martins vs. Leonardo Santos in a lightweight bout. This fight was not very good. In round 1, they had a feeling out process to begin the round. The pace picked up late in the round but Santos was moving a lot and Martins was having a hard time connecting. In round 2, Santos was throwing a lot of kicks and Martins was answering. This one turned into a kickboxing match. Martins started to change things up in this round but there wasn’t a ton of action. In round 3, Martins worked over the legs of Santos and then landed an elbow. They exchanged for the entire round with Martins being the more aggressive fighter. The judges gave the win to Santos by split decision.
