UFC 194 Post-Fight Bonuses: McGregor, Rockhold, Weidman Earn $50,000
The fight that fans around the world have been waiting nearly a year for finally came to fruition and it was over in a blink of an eye.
UFC 194 went down last night (December 12, 2015) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Las Vegas, Nevada and in the main event long-time featherweight champion Jose Aldo put his title on the line against interim champ the “Notorious” Conor McGregor.
The hype and promotion for the fight was relentless along with McGregor’s constant trash talk, but the Irishman backed it up completely. Just 13 seconds into the very first round McGregor landed a brutal left hand that shut the lights off for Aldo.
The “Notorious” one did exactly what he said he was going to and for that he was awarded a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.
The co-main event of the evening featured yet another intriguing title fight as middleweight boss Chris Weidman faced off with Luke Rockhold. The bout was being billed as the best 185-pound title fight of all-time between the clear cut top two middleweights in the world.
While these men may be at the top of the food chain, Rockhold was able to separate himself from the pack tonight, absolutely battering Weidman on route to a dominant third-round TKO victory. At the end of the day, however, both Rockhold and Weidman were given $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonuses.
Lightweight Leonardo Santos was also handed a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus in regards to his impressive first-round knockout over Kevin Lee.
