UFC 189 Betting Odds: Conor McGregor Favored Over Chad Mendes

Conor McGregor

Following a week-long windfall of media coverage surrounding UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo’s withdrawal from his anticipated main event against Conor McGregor at this Saturday night’s (July 11, 2015) UFC 189 with a broken rib, his recent challenger Chad Mendes stepped up to replace him and face ‘Notorious’ for the interim strap at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

While the unfortunate change has been the fixation of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world for the past couple weeks, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed much with the booking. That would be the betting odds for Mendes vs. McGregor, which currently sees the Irish star as the betting favorite over ‘Money.’ According to the betting experts at Sportbooksreview.com McGregor, who possesses a very sizeable reach advantage over Mendes, will simply be too big and too tall for the Team Alpha Male contender:

The bottom line here is that McGregor is simply too big for Mendes. The Notorious one is three inches taller and owns a daunting eight-inch reach advantage. Those advantages could be nullified if McGregor cannot manage to stay upright, but I believe Mendes will take a world of punishment trying to get inside on a devastating striker like Conor McGregor.

McGregor is currently anywhere from a -160 to -170 favorite for this Saturday’s blockbuster main event, with Mendes coming in at around +135-+150 depending on which sports book you decide to place a wager at. You can find a betting site tailor-made to your preferences along with a full list of prop bets for the pivotal fight at Sportsbookreview.com.
