UFC 187: Johnson vs Cormier Extended Preview
UFC 187: Johnson vs Cormier is coming closer as May 23rd approaches, and we will see a newly-crowned light-heavyweight champion in the main event. Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson will do battle for Jon Jones’ vacated strap at the head of the card, after the long-standing champ went down in a blaze of his own doing.
‘Rumble’ is fresh off a shocking knockout victory over former title contender Alexander Gustafsson, making the touted knockout artist hot property by all accounts. ‘DC’ unsuccessfully challenged ‘Bones’ for the belt back at UFC 182, but will get another crack at the whip against ‘AJ’.
That’s not all, UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will take on two-year rival Vitor Belfort in the co-main event of the evening. The Brazilian ‘Phenom’ will be coming in cold after sitting and waiting for his title shot since a trio of knockout wins in 2013.
Dan Henderson, Michael Bisping and current number one contender Luke Rockhold all fell to spectacular knockouts against Belfort, but the post-TRT version of the Brazilian banger is yet to be seen. ”The All-American’ racked up two wins against Anderson Silva and also topped Lyoto Machida, before getting KTFO by a spree of injuries.
We’ll also get the chance to see the streaking ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone return for his seventh fight in just over a year. The busy former WEC standout will take on late Khabib Nurmagomedov replacement John Makdessi in what could be a total burner.
