UFC 183 Medical Suspensions: Tate, Woodley Potentially Out For Six Months

UFC 183 went down this past weekend (January 31, 2015), presented live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a great card featuring a blockbuster main event, but it now seems as if some of the night’s combatants may be spending some serious time on the shelf nursing injuries.

Long time women’s bantamweight contender Miesha “Cupcake” Tate headlined the Fox Sports 1 prelims in a bout against former Olympian Sara McMann, and although Tate got the victory, it was not easy. It was a back and forth war, which saw “Cupcake” get rocked with a huge right hand in the first round that actually broke her orbital bone. She also seemed to hurt her left elbow during the fight. The former Strikeforce champion ended up coming back in rounds two and three, but she will now need clearance from a doctor or she will have to face a six-month medical suspension.

Another fighter facing a lengthy layoff is top welterweight contender Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley, who scored a split decision win over Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event of the evening.
