We are now just over a week out from the blockbuster card that is UFC 182. While January 3, 2015 approaches, fans can anticipate a great night of fights, but we can also look back at UFC 181 which went down on December 6, 2014.

It was a very exciting pay-per-view (PPV) to end the year off in style. The card featured two title fights, many returns, and some great finishes.

Josh Samman got the crowd riled up during the prelims when he scored one of the very best if not the best knockouts of the year when he landed a brutal head kick that sent Eddie “Truck” Gordon to the canvas.

UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis finally returned after 15 months on the shelf. He proved to everyone why he is the best 155 pounder on the planet by submitting No. 1 contender Gilbert Melendez in the second round.

In the main event, former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks also made his long awaited return from injury to defend his title for the first time in a rematch against “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler. The first time the two battled was at UFC 171 in March 2014, and it was a five round barn burner.

This bout was similar as the two went back and forth for the duration of the fight, but this time “Big Rigg” tried to use his wrestling to grind out a rather boring win. “Ruthless” was having none of this, as he constantly tried to land big shots and do as much as damage as possible.

Ultimately, Lawler was able to steal the belt from Hendricks and complete his long journey to UFC gold.
