UFC 179 went down on October 25th, 2014, in Brazil, and was headlined by the blockbuster rematch between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and longtime rival Chad Mendes. “Money” and “Scarface” went at it for five action packed rounds, in what many fans are now calling the best 145-pound title fight ever.
Also featured on the card was a light-heavyweight showdown between top 10 staples Phil Davis and Glover Teixeira. “Mr Wonderful” made the Brazilian grappler-turned-slugger look slow in his home territory and pulled off a unanimous decision win with his smothering wrestling style.
Fabio Maldonado returned to TKO an outmatched Hans Stringer, WEC stand out Scott Jorgensen fell by first round submission to Wilson Reis, and there was a host of other interesting bouts in Brazil.
